Where to find stylish maternity wear?

I'm very short and everything makes me look FRUMPY Sad
So far, have been to Top Shop, H&M, Dorothy Perkins.
Love the look of some of the JoJo Maman Bebe dresses, but sadly they're sold out of smaller sizes.
Am looking through ASOS too.
Anywhere else I should be looking? And, what sort of clothes would make me look less fat and round?

New Look for cheapness. Isabella Oliver for nice stuff (expensive, but can bag a bargain on E-bay). I also got some stuff from Mamas and Papas. But I resigned myself to looking like a weeble in the end...

How many weeks are you? I found using a mixture of "normal clothes" and maternity made me less frumpy. I'm not very tall myself. Also found tighter clothes worked better.

DK76 · 13/05/2011 16:45

I found some stylish jeans at justmaternityjeans.com Great variety, anyway...

TooTiredtoGoogle · 13/05/2011 16:46

Yes, I'm of the mind that tighter clothes work better on me because of my height too.
I'm 26 weeks, and feeling much bigger than I was with DD1 (I didn't really have to wear maternity clothes with her). But, I'm soooooo uncomfortable in my normal clothes. And, I'm so hot this time round too.
Bellsaringing - I'll try New Look, but aren't all their stuff synthetic and therefore uncomfortable???

Miss selfridge, peacocks and new look do a good range of nice maternity clothes online, all quite fashionable and reasonably priced. Also found that tunics with leggings work quite well. Am a shortie too.

lilly13 · 13/05/2011 20:16

order from destination maternity in the usa... very cute stuff and great quality

Beesok · 13/05/2011 21:24

am not a fan usually but stumbled into GAP today and bought a really nice black maternity dress (suitable for office/dinner) and jeans both for £10 on sale :)

jenga079 · 13/05/2011 22:20

I second going for the fitted/tighter stuff as i think it's much more flattering than the tents baggier things some shops offer.

Also, think: ACCESSORIES. Scarfs, necklaces, shoes and bags will last you after your pregnancy and help you feel more glam now.

HandMini · 13/05/2011 22:22

My advice is don't bother with any form of jeans/trousers - uncomfortable, unflattering, fall down all the time. Skirts and dresses (esp given summer pregnancy) are the way to go.

Gap have lovely t-shirts/long sleeves, really soft material. Hennes have some great smocks, elasticated waist skirts, big sundresses, maxi dresses etc, some of which are not maternity but are absolutely fab and often 100% cotton.

Isabella Oliver great for work wear - the dresses are smart enough for weddings etc too.

TransatlanticCityGirl · 13/05/2011 22:23

I don't bother with maternity clothes anymore. No matter where you go they are horrible, frumpy, or expensive. At 34 weeks I can still fit into non-pregnancy clothes. I've been shopping at Monsoon recently. Lots of stuff that fits!

Mollyfloss · 13/05/2011 22:26

Pg with baby No.3 here and really fed up of maternity clothes. Tootired, I'm also 26 weeks and if it's any consolation I think it's better to be heavily pg in the summer because It never really gets too hot in he UK so anyway but warm enough so you can just slip into flip flops and light flimsy dresses or leggings and tunic tops when it's a bit colder. My other two were born in April & December so the last couple of months of pregnancy I has to wear boots, tights (itchy), coats etc. Horrible.

Here are another couple of places: www.cravematernity.co.uk/
www.prettypregnant.co.uk, www.tiffanyrose.com/

I'm short too, and have mostly gone for tighter fitting tops and trousers. I know someone above said they preferred skirts and dresses, but I've found they just flare out over the bump and make me look frumpy! Fitted trousers and tops are much more flattering on me.

Although expensive, I've got the most wear out of a handful of Isabella Oliver tops. Gap is a close second though.

sprinkles77 · 13/05/2011 22:45

I am also a shortie, and definitely felt more comfortable in tight fitting clothes as anything baggy felt like a tent. M&S do great wideleg trousers, very stretchy with elastic waistband (not maternity) about £25 (these were also very kind on my c-section scar afterwards), I think I had 3 or 4 pairs. I wore these with black maternity tops from h&m. Then dress up or down with shoes and accessories. I also got a nice jumper dress (not good for summer!) from Crave (internet). Maternity jeans from top shop, and some normal clothes in the next size up. I got a black dress from Seraphine. That was the sum of my wardrobe, I had a uniform for work, and just wore the same few items of black lycra all the way through. I wore my usual coat, which somehow fitted, though I did break the zip! I only bought pretty cheap stuff, as I only really wore it for 6 months (from about 20 weeks till DS was about 8 weeks).

Isntitironic · 14/05/2011 06:51

I've got a couple of JoJo dresses and they're amazingly comfortable, lovely fabric too. I couldn't get my size online but managed to get to a store that had the size and put it aside for me. If you can get to a store they're really helpful like that.

TooTiredtoGoogle · 15/05/2011 12:01

Thansks for all the tips - especially about tight fitting stuff looking better on shorties like me.
Just back from my local Jojo Maman shop and have bought two dresses - one which can be worn for breastfeeding too! And, not badly priced at £29 each! (Topshop were selling dresses for £45!)
So, that's me sorted now Smile

Jersey maxi dresses (non maternity) have been my saviour as they gently stretch over the bump making it look obviously bump and not like you are trying to hide a big tummy under a tent dress. I am 5'4 and I have a very large bump in comparison. I got a great one in peacocks. I'm hoping they will be suitable for those first few weeks after birth while the middle is not in it's best state.

Tiasmummyxx · 08/06/2011 23:56

I have the concern about spending fortunes on clothes I'll not be wearing for very often although you do also wear them after the baby is born too for a wee while until your baby weight drops off so you do get a lot of wear out of clothing, more than you may think. I am pregnant with baby no.2 and with my 1st I simply bought a pair of maternity jeans and a pair of maternity combats and a couple of maternity tops from New Look although I bought loads of larger-than-normal-sized tops from Primark where you can literally buy about 10 tops for £30-40 quid! That was my comfy wardrobe!

On this occasion though I do need office/work wear as I also work from home but attend business meetings through the week. I have just logged into affordablematernity.co.uk and have spent £120 including delivery costs to buy 3 pairs of suit/smart trousers and 5 smart tops (1 for each day :) ) and I think that is really great value as they are designed to last through my whole pregnancy due to the wrap style and floaty tops and the adjustable waistbands on the suit trousers. They have a relatively small but lovely range of items to suit all shapes and sizes of pregnancies so I'd advise you to log on there too.

Hopefully this helps you :)

BakingBunty · 09/06/2011 09:22

My top tips are Jo Jo's wrap tops and linen trousers. Really comfy and smart enough for work (for me, anyway!) The wrap tops take a while to get the hang of but look great the whole way through pregnancy.

At 30 weeks, I'm also still finding normal GAP tops (especially vests) great as they seem to be really long.

I also got some really cheap maxi dresses from H&M and Primark that work well over a bump even though they're not designed for that purpose!

So relieved to be pregnant in the summer, really wouldn't relish having to buy coats and jumpers...

Seraphine, Gap and Isabella Oliver have been my staples.
Gap is good for trousers and tops. IO - I have bought 3 tops from them and wear them continuously, they look fab for work. Seraphine - bought quite a selection from there, including party dresses and very good jeans
Agree on wearing tighter fitting clothes as well

CarrieInAnotherBabi · 02/11/2011 11:55

i'm hoping ot buy some nursing/maternity wear this time.

Jeezimacasalinga · 02/11/2011 12:07

Another vote for Isabella Oliver and Seraphine. And on't wear big, baggy clothes unless you want to look big and baggy Grin

KatherineCam · 02/11/2011 14:14

Just came back from maternity section in TopShop - everything there looked so sad and low quality. I stopped shopping at TopShop a while ago because I did not feel I could get away with it anymore but had a hope for their maternity wear being cheerful and fashion forward. No, the colors are drub, cuts - tent like and have nothing to do with current fashion and dresses are priced at £45. I better wait and buy Isabela Oliver or Boden on sale...

fuckityfuckfuckfuck · 02/11/2011 14:20

I popped into H and M today and was met with a small selection of maternity clothes The great thing is they do underwired nursing bras so I picked up a couple of those (I spent almost 40 quid a go on Anita ones last time, I just cannot stand non underwired bras) and got a lovely purple jumper and skinny jeans, all for less than £60. Not bad, and I can make the rest of my wardrobe stretch a bit longer I think. I had got some Topshop jeans but they are a bugger for falling down. The H and M ones are giant, over the tummy ones and seem pretty secure, if depressingly undersized (is a size 12 really considered a large??)
