Have just had scan today and the MW got someone else in as she said her measurements are off. The both measured the ventricals in the head and said there is too much fluid. The cut off for saftey is 10mm and ours ranged from 9.9 to 10.7 so we need to go back in 2 weeks when baby is bigger to see if it has changed. She only admitted after we pushed her that if it stays over limit ther is potential brain damage. Has anyone else had this and what were the results? Am really scared and 2 weeks feels like a long wait.

Sounds like a very stressful situation to be in! I am sorry I have no experience of this so can't help with more information, but can you ask for an appointment with a consultant who can explain the measurements and give you some more information? I am sure everything will turn out to be fine in two weeks' time, but I would not want to wait either.

Hi, this happened to me - venticles were 10.4 at 20 week scan which is borderline ventricular meglaly (sp?).

I had scans every 4 weeks and at 32 weeks they had gone back to normal (just - 9.9mm I think). They did not seem too concerned by this - I saw a geneticist about another problem and he was pretty unfazed by the vetricles (despite the other issues I was having with a raised nuchal). He also said in some countries they consider 11 to be the cut off.

Mine was on both sides, which is better I think - one side indicates haemmorgae or tumour I think, both sides is more likely to just be normal for your baby. It can indicate other conditions, but can't remember what off the top of my head, or what other markers they would look for.

Anyway, perfect 2 day old DS is lying here with me, seems totally fine.

hth.

Thanks FL, they only measured one side repeatedly but good to know that 11 is a cut of elsewhere. Glad your DS is fine, congrats to you. Is so horrible to be told there is a potential prob you have no control over.
Cheers Boo MW might be a bit clearer about potential prob as I just want to be clear about what I am dealing with good or bad x

For mild ventriculomegaly which 10mm would be classed as the outcome is perfectly normal in 95% of children and 5% some form of developmental delay. So the odds are definitely in your favour.
Sorry this post is so brief but my phone battery is about to go I think.

Yes - genetecist said what muffins said as well - and also added that as about 5% of boys have some sort of learning difficulty anyway, it doesn't necessarily mean anything iyswim.
