Bit of a tricky one but just wondered what others think. I have suspected for a couple of months that there is low level harassment occuring in my team, however I haven't actually witnessed anything. Events this week have made me 99% certain that it is happening by a comment made by a new team member who is leaving. Although nothing concrete at all. I have only got a month left prior to starting maternity leave and could really do without all this and whenever i ask team members if there are any problems within the team they all say no. Do I start dealing with it? Do I inform my cover of my suspiscions to pre-warn him? Do I just ignore it and wait for a team member to complain to either me or cover about it?

It's almost impossible to do anything if no-one will tell you about it, but you have an obligation to try. I'm assuming you're the manager here! If I were you I'd talk to the person who is leaving who made the comment and see if they're prepared to say anything more on or off the record. And I'd definitely tell your cover about it, even though it is only a suspicion at the minute. If your HR team are any use, I would have a word with them too. I'd be concerned about this mostly because it is not a good thing to be happening in a team and may be terrible for the individuals concerned. But there is also organisational liability if it escalates and you will need to be able to show that you and the organisation did everything you could.

Thanks Mainly, yes I am the manager - although the person i suspect it involves very much thinks that she is! Think I'll try and dig a bit more into it tomorrow and pre-warn my cover. Unfortunately, HR team only seem to be any use if it's for non-managerial support, although may give them a try too.
