I just wondered if anyone else on here works as a lecturer and if so, what your maternity pay is like...

Mine is 8 weeks full pay
16 weeks on half pay
15 weeks statuatory maternity pay
13 weeks unpaid leave.

how does this compare with other company policies in general too??...

Thanks xx

I'm not a lecturer, but the maternity scheme is the same for all staff at my uni.

As long as you've worked for over a year you get

18 weeks full pay,
21 weeks Statuatory Maternity pay
13 weeks unpaid leave

If you havnt worked for over a year you just get the 39 weeks of SMP/Maternity allowance, and 13 weeks unpaid leave.

expatnow · 12/05/2011 18:17

Same as Motherpanda

18 weeks full pay
21 weeks SMP
13 weeks unpaid

(maybe the same university...)

magicmelons · 12/05/2011 18:38

Mine is 16 weeks full pay and then they lost me after that.

crazyhead · 12/05/2011 18:55

Mine is 18 full or 9 full 18 half, 21 weeks SMP, then unpaid. Your annual leave however counts during the period, even though you aren't there

AllyB2 · 12/05/2011 20:39

I'm not a lecturer but work at a University and afaik it is the same scheme for everyone. For staff with at least one year's service:
12 weeks full pay
12 weeks half pay plus SMP
15 weeks SMP
13 weeks unpaid leave

Ben10sMum · 12/05/2011 22:35

Hiya. Yes, I'm a lecturer. They told me 13 weeks full pay, 13 weeks half, then 13 unpaid.

Did they mention 'keep in touch days?'. You can get paid for the odd days work and it doesn't affect your SMP. Might use it for prep days prior to coming back so I'm not landed with a week of lectures which I can't remember.

parsleysandwich · 12/05/2011 22:51

Also a lecturer. My university's contractual scheme is 26 weeks on full salary, then a further 13 of SMP - so quite generous. It applies to all university staff, not just academics.

(Unfortunately my personal circumstances mean I can't take them up on it as I'm not in a position to guarantee being able to return for 52 weeks which is required to be eligible, so I will actually just be getting 39 weeks of SMP).

owlbooty · 13/05/2011 09:55

I am not a lecturer either but as far as I am aware the same rules apply to all at my uni (and they are the only reason I have stuck in this horrible job for so long) -

26 weeks full pay
13 weeks SMP
13 weeks unpaid.

You do have to return for 3 months (although not necessarily full time) after the year is up, though, or they ask for the money back.

lightsandshapes · 13/05/2011 17:00

hmm, mine is looking a little stingy.....
You have to work for 3 months too afterwards to get to keep the money
After that i am considering going freelance... possibly....

Owl.... are you going back after?

I work for a national charity. The terms you get are AWESOME in comparison. We get statutory only.

lightsandshapes · 16/05/2011 13:11

hairy - take your point....

others - are you all planning to go back?

gembay · 16/05/2011 13:21

I work at a University and get exactly the same as you Lightandshapes

Mine is 8 weeks full pay
16 weeks on half pay
15 weeks statutory maternity pay
13 weeks unpaid leave.

I agree it's looking a bit stingy compared to some of the others here! We also have to pay back some of it if we don't return for at least 13 weeks.

kateyfer · 16/05/2011 13:55

i also work at a uni, and all staff (admin or academic) get the same T&Cs:

18 weeks full pay,
21 weeks Statuatory Maternity pay
13 weeks unpaid leave

Rootatoot · 16/05/2011 14:15

I work at a uni PT on an hourly rate, and the university's policy is:

x4 weeks full pay
x 2 weeks 90%
x20 weeks 50% (plus SMP)
x13 weeks SMP only

As I have been self-employed as well for so long, I was well chuffed to think I might get anything to be honest, as I'm relatively new to the job.

Yes I am intending to go back for Semester 2 in Feb next year (baby due August) but I won't know if they will have any hours to offer me or not until probably a couple of weeks before hand. If I do get the hours, then I will get the uni maternity pay backdated at that point, and until then I'll just get SMP (I think! It's complicated isn't it?!)

owlbooty · 16/05/2011 15:33

lights yes, I am going back after but am seriously considering only doing the minimum I have to do to keep the money then handing in my notice! I'm amazed at how much this varies from uni to uni given that the same unions are active at all of them.

H007 · 16/05/2011 22:14

I'm a lecturer and mine is 6 weeks full pay, up to 3 months 90%, 3-6months SMP + half pay, 6-9 months SMP and 9-12 months nada!
