Just found out i'm pregnant and need some advice please.

I have been on nicotine patches for a while which has been keeping me off the fags. But yesterday when I got my BFP I had to take my patch off.

This morning I am fit for killing something!!! How can I just go cold turkey?

Does anyone have any practical advice?

My partner gave up smoking. He says doing exercise is the key.

Id go to Dr and discuss it.....

people DO smoke in pregnancy (not that they "should" so perhaps a lower dose patch for some time might help?... and surely better for baby than a fag)

and well done for giving up Grin. Im sure Dr / midwife will want and be happy to support you anyway they can

right, well i'm going to book appointment tomorrow! I've managed cold turkey since yesterday morning so i might as well continue now.

THEN I just have the extra weight to shift (already BMI43+) Shock

i never tried patches, however, i did gave up after reading allen carr's book and listening to the cd... it is very useful and i would recommend this

Yes, definitely speak to your GP tomorrow.

Good luck, and congratulations!

i work in a healthy lifestyle team within our PCT and the stop smoking team is part of our department. They prescribe patches too pregnant ladies so maybe a lower dosage of patch would be ok?! Smoking cessation isn't my area but see your GP or your local stop smoking team as there are several NRT out there

Good luck!! I have literally no expertise whatsoever, but surely you can continue to use patches and gradually decrease the dose?

GOOD LUCK and keep it up!!

well not had anything since sat morning, it's going well! got the number of the local team who can prescribe patches etc should i need them Grin

You can safely use patches in pregnancy, so if you feel that they are helping then use them.

Call the Time to Quit team and you can get patches and "top up" NRT (inhalators, gum, lozenges etc for if the craving gets really bad) all for free and you can do the program over the phone.
