Gestational diabetes

Hi
Is there anyone on here who has got gestational diabetes? I had gtt this week and they said the results was borderline (5.5) so I've been given the blood sugar monitoring kit and all that today, but finding it a bit confusing. I was asked to do my blood 1 hr after eating so I have done it but it came out at 4.3. I don't understand how that can be right because surely it would be higher, as that is lower than the fasting one and also the midwife did one when I went in just to demonstrate the machine, which would have been about 3 hours after eating and came out 5.2.
So does this mean I am doing it wrong? the first strip i tried had an error message so then I did it again and got this..
Is there anyone who is a bit more experienced with the machine who can tell me what I might be doing wrong with it, or is 4.3 okay?! as you can see I don't really understand it properly

I have type 1 diabetes, will try to help..

Your reading might be 4.3, especially if you don't have GD. 4.3 is a normal non-diabetic reading.

What type of meter do you have (make/model). Most of them these days won't give you a false low reading. A false high reading can occur if you have traces of food/drink on your hands.

Thank you for reply falling and laughing
The machine is called Optium Xceed
hmm so if the readings keep coming back on that kind of level then maybe I would not actually have it?! I wonder why the gtt has come back a bit high then, my 2nd baby was pretty big and I am a bit overweight so I was not that suprised to be told i had it
I suppose they will tell me more when i keep monitoring it and show them the numbers. They told me it should be below 7.8 after eating so was expecting it to be nearer that kind of number, is why I was confused

I have an optimum xceed too. It is pretty hard to get a false low because it won't start measuring til there is enough blood - and it needs hardly any. If you have any doubts, just test again.

I don't know if you have GD or why the GTT came back high, but more readings like that would be very promising.

also 5.5 is not high for a diabetic, not at allBut I've nver had a GTT so don't know what they are looking for.

They said they look for it to come back as under 5.5 cos that is when you have been fasting no breakfast etc. But i've done mine this morning before breakfast it came out at 7 so that seems high so i suppose they are probably right i do have it..

I was diagnosed with gd at 28wks now 33+3 and have to say although having a medical background have found this really confusing. My pre breakfast readings are normally fine but then I can eat something which I have been told is fine and they'll be above 7.8 other times I can have a 3 course meal with a choc pud (naughty i know) and reading is below 7.8. I have found it really confusing,my consultant says as there's no pattern and the readings not too high its ok as long as I can keep them like this til 36wks won't need Insulin. So not much help to you I know but just wanted to share. Best of luck xxx

thanks tavish, good to know atleast its not just me who finds it confusing!
