Colostrum question - is this NORMAL???? Or over-reaction? Help!

I'm 35+4 weeks pg today and seem to be ready to breast feed!!!!

Some time ago I was getting very sore nipples, like they were burning, mentioned it to midwife who advised me to massage my breast and nipples daily to get rid of any colostrum build up as that was probably the cause. I have done this for about 8 weeks now and usually get a little bit of of clear discharge out, it has helped ease them greatly.

In the last week or so it has changed from clear to a milkier liquid and seemed to be a bit more of it - OK, I thought, just body preparing for baby.

Today (at work) boobs feel really, really sore so went to the loo to massage them. I was a little bit horrified to find that as soon as I touch each of my nipples I have stuff literally squirting out of them Shock this is not a little trickle but LOADS and its really milky in colour. I've soaked through a wad of toilet tissue trying to get rid of it all but it doesn't seem to be stopping.... is this ordinary??
I've also been getting sharp shooting pains in my vagina for the past few days. Not in pain though, I'm just uncomfortable.

Argh Confused should I ring the midwife or am I overreacting (i do tend do be a bit of a drama queen :o)

Perfectly normal, but probably exacerbated by you stimulating them. Plus, you will have one satisfied baby when it arrives! Lol

Thank you, it was just the strangest thing (I actually had to wipe some of the back of the cubicle door Blush) and I was totally freaked out.

It does seem to be slowing but I have soaked through one set of breast pads now and onto the second set, at this rate I'll have to go home I haven't got any more with me!

Not an expert but...
Sounds like the nipple stimulation has reminded your body it will be going into labour soon Grin

And you seem to have plenty of milk.

I haven't had this when pregnant, I don't usually leak colostrum at all. However, nipple/breast massaging or stimulation would stimulate your milk supply.

I did however get this once when I wasn't pregnant. It was very bizarre, but I had milk dripping/squirting out for a week or so, then it stopped.

I can remember going into M&S for a bra fitting when I was 7 or 8 months pg.

Went into cubicle for a bra fitting with assistant and when I took my top off I had 2 massive wet patches on the front of my bra Blush

It does feel very odd having constantly damp boobs! Smartypants, poor you that must have been so embarrassing Blush

It hurts so much if I don't massage it out, I don't want to overstimualte though, can I do that? It'll still have all the nutrients the baby needs won't it - I haven't wasted the "good stuff" in the work toilets have I??!!

I am aware of my irritating neurotic-ness BTW :o
