Pregnancy

right, can put it off no longer, I need some nursing bras, are there any that do not look like industrial boulder-holders?

I'm 37 weeks with DC2 and would like to breastfeed so I need to get some access-flap type bras fairly soon (am new to this breastfeeding malarky)

My bra size has not increased at all during the pregnancy (if anything they're a bit smaller, I've had hyperemesis) but I'm sure it may go up when the milk production kicks in. Am currently about a 32/34F/G so not humungous but not teeny tiny either

Is there anywhere I can get nice looking feeding bras (pref high street so I can try on)? And would it be better to just get say 2 for now and then get some more later when I have more of an idea of my post-natal nork size?

Any tips appreciated, thanks.

Hiya

John Lewis has some very pretty nursing bras, I got four in various colours very comfortable and reasonably priced. Nothing like the scary ones you mean! (I tried those on too). However for sleep bras I found Mothercare did quite attractive double packs.

I think you will be about right to try on now, if you can take along a breast pad to check that it will pop inside neatly.

Congratulations!

I've invested in some feeding vests for the first few days. They have a kind of inbuilt bra top in them.

I've been in my pre-pregnancy bras all through, and have no clue if I'll actually get any bigger or not when my milk comes in.

As I'm an expensive pretty undies kind of girl, I don't much like the guestimating that goes on around buying nursing bras in the run up to birth and then finding out that they are too big or too small after a few weeks.

I'm going to wait and see and then head off to be measured properly once I know what size I have ended up as.

I picked up my vest tops in Mamas and Papas, but I know Mothercare and quite a few other shops stock similar.

The prettiest nursing bras I've found all seem to be online, therefore I'll have to take myself off to somewhere like John Lewis or Debenhams to be measured and the place my orders based on that.

M&S have improved their bras lately. I picked up 2 maternity bras, as my bazoomas have gone up a size in recent weeks. Pack of 2 for £25. Pretty comfy. They're same as nursing bras so quick access. They're not in the pretty category. Definately functional but nice and soft.

Jojo Maman Bebe do nice ones but I'd get a cheap one and then remeasure once milk is in - the ones I bought in advance only held me for a week after dd was born as I went up a cup size.

I'd like to second the M&S recommendation. Even 4 years ago when I had DS2 they had pretty pale blue lace and black netting ones - great if you're planning to BF in summer and may actually want to wear a camisole style top due to it being blardy boiling.

I liked hotmilk (if you can get past the awful names...) and got them from www.nursingbra.co.uk/ too. Carried on wearing them even when we were down to a before bed feed as they were so comfy and supportive. Looked nice too.

i know you said you prefer high street, but bravissimo are great, i just bought some in a selection of sizes (free returns)...some of them, dare i say, in the ginormous 36g that my udders have now become, are quite pretty. i do think they come up bigger 'underneath' that the equivalent wired bra so if you're on the fence between and 32 and 34 the 32 will probably work...the ones i got have many different hook settings which is great.

Also try vertbaudet.co.uk which have some pretty feminine ones with either shoulder snap fastening or central press-stud, depending on what works for you.

I second the Elle Mcpherson ones; fab quality and really pretty. Can be bought on figleaves so no shops to be visited. Hth. Good luck with the new baby Smile

Bravissimo are becoming more "high Street" these days with lots of stores in major cities/towns. Have a look on their website for your closest (it is worth the travel if they're a bit further away!). I would say they will be by far the best at giving you a good fitting. Having said that I just don't think it's possible to get a good fit until your milk is properly in, so around 2 wks post birth although if you've been fitted before then it's easier to do it again from home and do mail order rather than try to get to the shops with a newborn.

I bought my nursing bras from M&S last time - BIG mistake. No support, didn't fit right (even though I got them fitted). Don't scrimp on getting good quality, well fitting bras. When your milk comes in your boobs will become rock hard, heavier than you thought possible and you will be glad of the support! Strappy tops just won't cut it for more than a few days post birth!
