Which essential oils are safe to use in pregnancy?

We are TTC at the moment and hoping for a BFP this month. Last night DH was going to give me a massage when I noticed that the massage oil we use has rosemary oil in it and it said not safe for use in pregnancy. So I need to buy another brand. Are there any 'mum to be' massage oils that anyone can recommend, or at least ones that are safe to use in pregnancy?

thanks

Thank you for that list, High Heels, I have printed it out as thats so useful toknow. Maybe I ought to get a pregnancy book to know things like this, even though Im not pregnant yet!

What's meant to be the side effect of rosemary oil in pregnancy? I've been using it in a face oil since before I found out I was pregnant (16+1 now) - might I have done some damage?

I'm not sure what the effect would be on your face BabC- I had heard not to use it on the body (ie near the foetus) as it is a stimulant that can trigger contractions. BUT this is in large quantitities of strong, high-grade rosemary oil and Im sure very very rare. Why not give your MW/the dr a call though just to see what she says?

The essential oils to avoid are those which can cause cramping or contractions or thin the blood, obviously tests haven't been carried out on pregnant ladies to see if they have any negative effects though. I'm sure you haven't done any damage as you're probably using it in such small amounts, and you would have noticed if you'd had any contractions. There are so many things to try and keep track of regarding what's "safe" that I'm sure most of us have done something on one of the many avoid lists at some point!
