Does anyone else's bump go hard after sex? Mine doesn't always but does a lot of the time and I am really worried that we are doing damage!

Mine does too. Pretty sure that's normal.

Renaissance227 · 09/05/2011 10:05

I'm not far enough along to have advice muself but happen to be up to that bit of my Mumsnet book! Was reading this very morning that sex can trigger braxton hicks - maybe thats it?

Imnotaslimjim · 09/05/2011 10:18

Yes, its perfectly normal for that to happen. The effects of the orgasm will bring on braxton hicks. Its one of the reasons why sex is good to bring on labour when you're ready to get bubs out!

WiiUnfit · 09/05/2011 10:37

Mine does too, it's BH. :)

amberleaf · 09/05/2011 12:20

Yes.

Perfectly normal!

lolajane2009 · 09/05/2011 12:25

yep, normal, due to the orgasm.

marie14 · 09/05/2011 16:43

hehe always thought it was baby turning his back as if to saw "ewwwww mummy stop it!!! i don't need tto see this!"

ShowOfHands · 09/05/2011 16:51

No damage at all.

And don't worry, sex doesn't bring on labour either. Or they'd ban it during pregnancy. Grin

ParisPreMom · 09/05/2011 17:49

Hi,
I just wanted to reply to ShowOfHands's message to say that sometimes it can bring it on if you're at a risk of premature labour. Prostaglandins in semen and the oxytocin released during orgasm can modify your cervix. If you've been put on bed rest or are at a risk of premature labour, ask your doctor first!

ShowOfHands · 09/05/2011 17:56

Oh of course you are sometimes told to avoid sex entirely (as I was when pg with dd for a certain period of time). Sorry, I wasn't clear about what I was responding to...

I was replying to the comment that it can be used to bring on labour. It isn't. In a normal, low risk straightforward pregnancy. Or it would be banned for us all before 37 weeks. All research shows that that sex and orgasm cannot even remotely replicate the levels of prostaglandins needed to induce labour in a normal pregnancy and there is no significant link between sex and labour starting.

Coppernoddle · 09/05/2011 18:08

I'm on a sex and orgasm ban :( have been since march and will do till July!! It makes your uturus contract and towards the end can induce labour! Usually if your over 40 weeks, worked both times with my first two. But I have grade 4 placenta previa and under no circumstances am I allowed to insert a penis into my bits or orgasm due to the uturus contracting could damage the placenta and make it detach but that's because it's in my pelvis! Sex in pregnancy is very healthy for you and baby due to the happy hormones released, and to me, sex is amazing in pregnancy!! Just a shame I'm banned!! :( but did start off my first two labours when I went over a week with both!
Enjoy!!!!! :)

ParisPreMom · 10/05/2011 13:09

I feel for you Coppernoddle, I'm in the same boat :-(((((((

MrsNoggin · 10/05/2011 16:16

Pregnant sex is good. Apparently in earlier pregnancy the rocking motions can soothe the baby. I imgaine they get a bit jostled though, as they get bigger and get in the way more... And your happy chemicals flood through to your baby too.

Unfortunately I'm getting to the point where BH are getting a bit painful, so I'm having to weigh up the pros and cons of sex before I get into it.

p.s. Sad for Coppernoddle and ParisPreMom. Really, I can only imagine the frustration!

davidtennantsmistress · 10/05/2011 19:18

mine does yes, well did, DP is away :( ah how I miss sex.
