What would the dr say if I went saying I thought I was 20 weeks pg without missing AF?

I really do feel pg. And the last few days, I've ballooned round the tummy though I've lost 9lb in weight in the last fortnight

Near Christmas my AF was late, by nearly 2 weeks and when it finally arrived it was very strange (lot of mucus and brown blood, only lasted 2 days rather than usual 5)

I'm also getting some odd sensations in my lower tummy. I have 2 DC and it really feels like the first movements of a baby. And my boobs are really really sore, and they've gone up a cupsize

I've had regular AF since the weird one at christmas though. Would the dr say come back when you've missed? Give me a check over? Send me for a scan? DH is worried its something more sinister and wants me to go tomorrow. I want to wait tol next AF is due (about 10 days away) and see if it arrives.

to top it off, DH had a vasectomy 3 years ago so if I am, we have to reconsider contraception!

Thanks for the input mouse. It does make things a little clearer for me. I've been discussing it with DH in the last half hour and we've decided that I'm going to give it a few days, and if the symptoms continue I'll get an appt for Thursday or Friday (its book on the day so won't be difficult) it probs is just wind or AF arriving early

Hope it all works out, it does sounds very strange.

BPrincess · 09/05/2011 12:58

Def go and see the doc. I imagine there's some problem there, non-prg related, but that needs sorting out. Let us know how you get on. And good luck!

AuntieMaggie · 09/05/2011 13:06

did you go to the doctor/

galwaygal · 09/05/2011 18:15

I just wanted to point out that some women do not get positive tests throughout pregnancy. It is known as the Hook effect, it is where the hcg levels get so high that the tests, for want of a better word "malfunction", and give a negative. Carefully diluted urine will then produce a posiitive.

Another thing is that not all women get a positive test while pregnant. Both my mum and my sister each had a pregnancy where they never got a positive test, it does happen, alibit rarely.

Having said that OP I doubt very much that you are pregnant. Also most GP's will just send you away saying that you are not pregnant.

If you do go to the doctor, then do get them to feel your tummy, your uterus would be clearly felt as enlarged if you are actually pregnant.

If you want to get gp on board, I would not go talking about possibly being pregnant (as most gp's will just switch off at this point). but talk about your feeling bloated and uncomfortable in your stomach and wondering what is going on, and that you are concerned about it.

I hope your mind gets put at rest soon.

Imnotaslimjim · 11/05/2011 12:52

No, I haven't been to the dr yet. As much as I said it would be easy to get in, I haven't managed to get an appt :( so I'm going to leave it til next week, see if the uncomfortable feeling passes, as its still there, and take it from there. I did think that with my boobs being sore, AF would have arrived early, but nothing so far!

Thanks for the concern though, its nice to know someone cares. galwaygal I've recently spoken to my mum about all this and she said with my brother, she didn't get a BFP at all, and still had AF until the cycle he was due! So it is possible!

How is your.. (ahem), bowel health?? Are you regular?? If not then get some prune juice and see if that relieved the bloatedness, if you are regular then, as you were.

Imnotaslimjim · 11/05/2011 14:12

That, ahem, end of things is absolutely fine Ealing. I have a fairly healthy diet, lots of fruit and veg and roughage so don't often have issues.

I am getting fairly uncomfortable though, but its higher up than constipation would cause. Its starting to feel like when you are full-term but baby hasn't dropped, that pressure you get under your ribcage. I've gone from "hmmm possibly pg" to "so not pg but something not right" to being pretty scared now. Gonna try and get into the dr's again tomorrow, cos its getting a bit much

Imnotaslimjim - the not getting a positive while being pregnant seems to run in families (does in mine!) so since your mum had this, it does increase the possibility that you might be. My sister had to wait til she was 4 months too and had it confirmed by a scan then.

I hope that the doc's give you an appointment soon.

CarGirl · 11/05/2011 20:38

Please please go to the drs, if the can't won't give you and emergency appt I'd go to a walk in centre. If you're not pregnant then there is clearly something wrong.

vickylou2004 · 11/05/2011 21:42

Hi, it sounds like you are not having proper periods, just old blood (brown) you say?

Plenty of woman go through this all through their pregnancies. When pregnant with my first child I had this (spotting brown) just before I tested, I just knew I was pregnant as it was very unusual.

In my opinion it sounds like you are pregnant, ( I might be wrong). Go to the doctors and insist on a scan.

Imnotaslimjim · 11/05/2011 23:50

Vicki, it was only the one at Christmas that was short and dark. All the ones since have been regular, and normal, if a little lighter than what they used to be (not much though) I'm going to call for an emergency appt tomorrow and get seen to, as its fairly obvious that something isn't right. I'm just going to explain that i'm bloated and uncomfortable and even though I've lost weight I've actually gone UP a dress size! I'd be over the moon if I was pregnant, but I've convinced myself I'm not so it isn't too much of a shock

Have you managed to get an appointment yet? If not please can I nag you?

Hopefully it is pregnancy Grin or something else non-serious, but there are some nasty things which can cause similar symptoms too, so just in case, it would be a good idea to get checked out as soon as you can, and make sure you get an answer.

jasmine51 · 12/05/2011 09:56

Please go to the Drs - I dont want to alarm you...but actually I do to force you to go....some of the symptoms you describe could point to something you really want to have looked at eg ovarian cyst, tumour etc. Sorry to be so blunt but Im about to lose to dear friend to an ovarian cancer and her first symptom was looking 5 months pregnant. Please come back and let us know you have been thoroughly investigated and scanned and all is ok x

buttonmoon78 · 12/05/2011 12:23

Nag.

Luminary · 12/05/2011 12:36

Go get checked out!

I had all the symptoms you described, and it turned out it was a huge ovarian cyst, the size of a seven month fetus. I'd never been pregnant before, so I couldn't compare, but having had a baby now, I can attest that a lot of the symptoms mimicked pregnancy. In fact, at the time, I was convinced I was pregnant and kept taking pregnancy tests to be sure (all negative, of course).

The good news is that most ovarian cysts (esp big ones) are benign, but it's better to get them dealt with asap.

Go make an appointment and then come and tell us you have!

Imnotaslimjim · 13/05/2011 08:50

right, finally got appt for 10.30 this morning. So will finally know whats going on. I'm pretty convinced now that I'm not pregnant as I have no other symptoms so I'm leaning towards a lot of trapped wind or some sort of ovarian cyst. Keep your fingers crossed that its something simple please

OP posts:
Tortoiseonthehalfshell · 13/05/2011 08:57

Good luck, slim. FWIW, I had an ovarian cyst 8 or so years ago that was the size of a 4-5 month foetus. I needed fairly significant abdominal surgery to remove it, and have what looks like a C-section scar because of that, but it was completely benign, has never recurred, and hasn't affected my fertility at all. I wouldn't be surprised if this is a cyst you're talking about, as they do affect periods, and it's definitely best to get it checked out - although they're usually benign, they do keep growing!

Theantsgomarching · 13/05/2011 09:08

Good luck

Rootatoot · 13/05/2011 09:08

Glad you got an appointment. Let us know how you get on.

prolificwillybreeder · 13/05/2011 09:16

Good luck this morning! Hope you find some answers today. Don't get fobbed off!

jasmine51 · 13/05/2011 09:17

Good luck - make sure you are listened to and investigated x

PoppysMom · 13/05/2011 09:37

Good luck xx

Luminary · 13/05/2011 11:33

How did it go?!

Imnotaslimjim · 13/05/2011 14:10

I'm back, and everything is fine. Dr was very thorough (thankfully he's a lovely GP that really listens to you) so I explained EVERYTHING and he give me a thorough prod and poke. He said everything "down there" is fine, no worries at all. He thinks the gastritis I've got from the hiatus hernia has spread, and has put me back on Omeprazole. If the symptoms don't lessen within a couple of weeks I've to go back for another gastroscopy. Horrible things. I've also got to watch what I'm eating, as a lot of dairy and wheat won't be doing me any favours

So thank you, all of you, for helping put my mind at rest and letting me talk it out. Thankfully it is something easily treated, and I don't have to try and get my head round another baby coming when we thought we were done with all that lol
