ELCS at 41 weeks?

Hi

I had DD at 42 weeks and ended up with a c-section. This time around the consultant has booked me in for an elective section at 41 weeks, because, she says, it appears my national gestation period is 42 weeks. Has anyone else had a section booked then? I thought in the main ELCSs were booked for 39 weeks?

Thanks!

I think that sounds like a good idea. I also ( I think) would gestate babies for 42 weeks given the chance, and had my last baby as a 39week ELCS. My DD looked very prem - she was small, thin, red skin, and didnt look at all like my 2 previous 42 weekers who were much bigger and looked 'ready' to me.
Presumably they will ask you to come quickly to the hospital for a CS if you do happen to go into labour beforehand?

I wish they had taken that into consideration when had ds, I had previously had dd1 (10 days over) and dd2 (14 days over), but ds was elcs at 39 weeks. He was born with respiratory distress syndrome, and was in SCBU for 8 days. The consultant at the time said that my dates may have been slightly wrong, and my longer gestation period with dds should have been taken into account.

If you go into labour previous to 41 weeks, you should still be able to have a section, as you are already booked in for one.

Thanks guys. hazeyjane, sorry to hear about your DS. I think I will have to stick it out until 41 weeks then! :-)
