Hi ladies wanted to pick your brains. I think I have PGP severe pain in hips, night time especially as well as a disc problem in my lower back which causes me a lot of pain,I'm due physio in the next few weeks and am due to see an anaesthetist the begining of June. I was also diagnosed with Gd which is diet controlled at present but ? for how long as its all over the place no patterns baby measuring normal at present. My question is what are my chances of having a C-sect and do you think this route would be preferable?
Thx Manda 32+5

Will depend on lots of things and probably best to have a conversation with your consultant about whether they would give you the option.

As for what's preferable, what are your reasons for consudering a section? Are you just thinking about getting the pregnancy over quickly or the birth?

C-section is unlikely to be an option for PGP, though for severe cases induction is sometimes offered. PGP doesn't make birth any more difficult, you can just use appropriate positions. What is it you're concerned about? You'll probably feel much better having talked it through with a physio. Why haven't you had a referral before now? Could you go private to see someone more quickly?

I've been on crutches with PGP/SPD plus coccyx damage for a couple of months and am 32+6. Personally I would much rather avoid a c-section as I think the recovery period is the thing most likely to cause ongoing damage. The same for induction, I don't want to get into a cycle of interventions if I can avoid it and I'd rather give my baby the best chance to come out when it's ready! Obviously if they're medically necessary it's different, I'm not sure whether that's the case for GD?

I was given a c-sec with my first due to severe spd as my consultant tried me in all sorts of positions and I was in agony with them all and she was worried I was having a large baby and they would do me more damage if I needed intervention. So it will depend on your consultant mainly.

Thx ladies ideally would like a vaginal birth wasn't sure if cause of the pgp delivery might be more difficult. TBH am managing to cope at present but has the birth gets nearer all sorts of things have been going through my head. Was refered to physio about a month ago but they've only just been able to fit me in,hopefully they will be able to help. Have now got a lovely girdle thats seems to help. Thx again ladies

I've found physio a great help with PGP, so you might be feeling a bit better soon. I've never seen a consultant, I was told it was only necessary if I couldn't manage the pain and needed to discuss medication. Everyone has been happy to sign me off for a home birth.

Have you thought about a water birth? I'm planning one and have been practising positions at the swimming pool. I find it easy to kneel and squat in the water, which are both great positions.

Good luck!
