Hi, I?ve been lurking a while and trust you wise ladies to give me some sound wisdom.

So, am 15+5 with my first pregnancy (not including miscarriage last year). Am relatively fit as I often walk home from work which is around 5.5 miles. Yesterday morning on my walk to the tube I noticed some mild but sharp stabbing type pains in my groin. It faded during the day (once I was at my desk and had stopped moving around I guess) so although I was aware that something wasn?t quite right for the rest of the day, I didn?t really think about it again until this morning on the way to the tube again when each step was accompanied by a sharp stabbing / stinging sensation and I had to reduce my walk to tiny fairy footsteps. No sharp pains whilst I'm just sitting at my desk but it feels like my womb has been filled with weights and I have a ?heavy? feeling down there. I don?t have any other symptoms (apart from an ongoing headache which started 6 weeks ago so I don?t think is related), no cramps, joint pain, back ache etc. I called the midwife who said it?s probably normal and to make an appointment with the GP if it gets worse.

Walking was extremely painful this morning because of the pain and I was whimpering and swearing under my breath with every other step; is this normal ?stretching? and should I just be sucking it up and getting on with it or could it be something else?

Sounds like it is just "round ligament pain" caused by the ligaments stretching. It should ease off again soon. Paracetamol is safe in PG if you need it, and dr can prescribe something stronger if the para's don't work

It doesn't sound like anything I've experienced. I'm not saying it's anything to worry about - but in your position I would consider popping to the GP for an examination.

Hey Switz, I'm 19 weeks with my first and have been experiencing the same, alongside my friend who is 21 weeks. I've spoken to my doctor who just said it's mechanical and is our bodies stretching to make room for the little one. As long as it's not a constant pain that won't go away all day and you don't have any bleeding, I wouldn't worry too much.

Just try to walk slowly and sit down whenever you can, that's what I'm doing. I feel like an old lady but it works.

My doc said take paracetamol when it hurts and just take it easy. I've also found that if I wake up on my back, it's worse when I walk in the morning, so I've started wedging a pillow behind my back when I'm on my side to stop me rolling over. And it definitely helped this morning.

Try not to worry too much, but maybe speak to your doc on the phone to out your mind at rest xxx

Thank you for your replies and I'm glad I'm not alone Gemsy (no offense, obviously I would rather you didn't have pain!). I think I'll make an appointment with the GP for a few days time and then cancel it if goes away or doesn't get worse.

I had that a couple of weeks ago (am now nearly 19weeks) - a real stabbing pain that literally took my breath away at times. My aunty is a midwife and she said ligament pain, perfectly normal and to take paracetamol if needed.

She also said to to be prepared for lots of niggles and pains during pregnancy - not all of which are explanaible. Something to look forward to!

On the plus side, I had the stabbing pains for about a week and nothing since then.

15.6 and yes I have googled it as I get sharp pains. I have decided (as the other poster said) that it is round ligament pain. It's horrible as any pain makes you think the worst.

I do find I get pain if I walk long distances. You could maybe try a support belt if you don't want to give up your walks-

I'm 24+4 and have had this for weeks when walking. It once stopped me in my tracks completely followed by a great deal of swearing after I got out of the car. Think it's pretty normal and am not worried about it. Like you, it seems to mainly occur when walking.

Definitely get a support belt! I have pains too when going for 'long' walks (nowhere near 5miles Grin) and the support belt just helps carry the 'weight', even though you generally dont feel heavy.

I am 19 weeks and find I get a 'heavy' womb after walking or standing too long. Have taken to becoming very lazy and sitting down lots, taking advantage of coffee shops in town and generally trying not to walk for longer than 15 mins at a time.
