Did you get the linea nigra (dark line down belly)? What sex was your baby?

Had linea nigra from fairly early on with both DS1 and DS2. Now 31 wks pregnant with DC3 (don't know sex) and no sign of it. Just wondering if anyone else had it with one pregnancy and not another?

Have no line, having a girl, not a hint of sickness either though.

MissMarjoribanks · 06/05/2011 16:55

BalloonSlayer - that's not the case for me. I am often mistaken for a bottle of Tippex in the winter.

TransatlanticCityGirl · 06/05/2011 18:14

No, and it's a girl.

iWILLdothis · 06/05/2011 19:20

No Linea nigra and I had a girl

Bearslikehoneyintheirtummy · 06/05/2011 20:16

I didnt have any sign of one with my daughter, I'm only 17 weeks now and don't know the sex but still have no sign of one coming (maybe its too early?)

2gorgeousboys · 06/05/2011 20:18

I did not have one with DS1 but did with DS2.

wigglesrock · 06/05/2011 20:37

I have 3 dds, no line for any of them Wink

kickingking · 06/05/2011 20:38

didn't have it and had a boy

davidtennantsmistress · 06/05/2011 20:39

didn't with ds was a boy - does it depend on your skin type? - as in I had major stretch marks & had a boy a friend had none and she had a boy, another had loads and a girl.

maxpower · 06/05/2011 20:42

didn't have one with either pg - have one DD and one DS

the whole pregnancies were totally different though

bibbitybobbityhat · 06/05/2011 20:43

No, didn't get it either time. Have a girl and a boy.

Fink · 06/05/2011 20:47

Yes. Girl.

Balloon - who is likely to get is based on genetic racial factors, though some paler women to get it, but whether an individual gets it in some pregnancies not others seems more random. I suppose it might as well be gender of child as anything else?

Pesha · 06/05/2011 20:50

DD - no, ds1 - no, ds2 - yes and currently 32 weeks with ds3 and have it again.

lurcherlover · 06/05/2011 22:24

Mine was the first sign of pregnancy I had - got it a couple of days before my BFP! I had a boy. He is now 6 months old and the line is still there....hopefully it'll go eventually!

LawrieMarlow · 06/05/2011 22:26

Had it with both pregnancies

One DS and one DD :)

TheBreastmilksOnMe · 06/05/2011 22:28

I have had a boy and a girl and got it both times although I don't think that it appeared until quite late on the 2nd time.

TheBreastmilksOnMe · 06/05/2011 22:30

It's to do with skin pigmentation as far as I know so it's not really possible that it has much to do with baby's gender.

Northernrose · 06/05/2011 22:30

Funnily enough wolf I was pondering this today as only just realised (34 wks) that I don't have one this time! did have with dd and midwife thought it was a dd this time too at our 20 wk scan but "couldn't be sure" as it had it's legs crossed...we shall see!

peanutbutterontoast · 06/05/2011 23:07

6 pregnancies (3 boys 3 girls) & I've never had it!

Beamur · 06/05/2011 23:13

I didn't think I had it, but then managed to look under my bump (which was vast) and there was a faint one under there, no morning sickness of any kind and had a girl.

FoofffyShmoofffer · 06/05/2011 23:14

Never had it. Have 1 boy and 1 girl.

cowboylover · 07/05/2011 02:22

No line at all and having a girl but really sick and my friend has a line and not been so sick and expecting a boy

MmeBucket · 07/05/2011 02:25

Yes. Both times. One boy and one girl.

differentnameforthis · 07/05/2011 02:32

Yes & yes.

Dd & dd

wolfhound · 07/05/2011 09:19

thanks for so many replies! it looks like it's very variable. obviously if i really wanted to know the sex i could have found out at the 20 week scan, but it just seems strange to have had the line twice and not this time (given all pregnancies so close together - all within 4 years). Well, a few more weeks will reveal all.

By the way - lurcher (if i've remembered the right name) - each time for me it took about 8 months for the line to disappear, so don't worry, it will in the end!
