Wide awake at 4am. Why? What helps?

For the third time this week I've ended up on the sofa after tossing and turning for over two hours. Why? Why does our body do this to us?!

I just want a good night's sleep! Any ideas?

I actually thought I was over this. I had a whole week of decent sleeps. One night I even slept for eight hours straight Grin I should have realised it couldn't last. This morning I was wide awake and staring at the ceiling from 2.30 till 5, when I finally got up and started marking my GCSE mock exam papers!

Grrrr. I will try the food and teeth cleaning routine if it happens again tonight.

I'm snacking now to see if it means i'm less likely to wake up hungry! I hate the idea of eating so late though, it goes against all my instincts.

It gives me indigestion if I eat late...........

jenga079 · 13/05/2011 07:16

Well, not sure if it was the pre-bed snack or the fact I was knackered, but I slept right through. Whooooooop! Randomly, I had rice pudding before bed. I figured the carbs & milk would help me get sleepy, but it wouldn't be so much to give me indigestion.

Argh! Me too! Alarm goes off at 5.25 but have woken at 5 every day this week - too late to go back to sleep and today woke at 4, was just drifting back off when DD woke up and spent till 5.15 getting her back to sleep. I'm lucky if I get 5 hours a night at the moment. Try and grab 20-30 mins on the train into work though as a power nap which just about gets me through the day - otherwise I'd be a zombie. Assume the tiredness is also contributing to increasing tearfulness as well.
Oh and for those championing the preparing for first 6 months of new baby sleeplessness - my DD is 2.2 and still doesn't sleep. Don't always believe the hype :P

I'm sure i read you're not supposed to eat after 2 hours before bedtime....

I didn't feel hungry last night (actually, I just felt yuck and icky), but I think that was because my dinner being savoury, and my bag of monster munch at dance had added together, so I had two strawberries, and then i felt much better (for about 10 minutes Hmm )

I seem to have to combine the savoury and the sweet now - if i have one i have to have the other.
