Best breast pads that don't break the bank - suggestions please

I'm 18 weeks pg with dc2 and I'm starting to produce liquid from my boobs already! I've heard lansinoh are the best breast pads but they cost a lot so wondered if anyone has suggestions for good quality ones that don't cost loads as I'm in for the long haul with them now!

washable reuseable ones

The johnsons disposable breast pads are soft, lovely and my absolute favourite, but around £3 a pack of 30.

I also used reusable breastpads just the own brand boots one, but found they needed washing loads of times to start absorbing well, maybe worth getting some and chucking them with all your normal whites loads now?

With DS (BF for a year) I tried every pad going and my firm favourites were Tesco's own brand!! It wasn't the price (although they are very cheap), I just found them the most comfortable!

I'm now 31 weeks pg with DC2 and have just bought my first box for the next round of BFing!

I second the washable reuseable ones. I have found the Avent ones to have the best shape so as showing lines under clothes and good absorbancy.

I also used to use tesco own brand which i felt i had to cahange a lot, didnt feel thy were very absorbant. I thought the johnsons ones were great, very absorbant and very soft and comfy but in the end i bought the avent washable reuseable ones as i was spending too much on the disposables and could not afford it any more.
My ds is 2.5 now and im 16+1 weeks pregnant with dc2, I still have my avent breast pads so will not have to spend any money on themthis time! Smile

change not cahange!!!

frakyouveryverymuch · 08/05/2011 12:38

Lilypadz or Avent reusables

Lavitabellissima · 08/05/2011 12:54

I found the asda own brand ones the best

summerfruitsalad · 08/05/2011 15:24

For fans of Johnson's pads, they cost £1.90 a box (30) in Waitrose!

Tommee Tippee ones absolute crap, Johnsons very comfy, didn't try any others!

Zimbah · 08/05/2011 19:13

I tried using washable ones the first time but found they got so manky covered in lansinoh that doesn't come off in the wash so I went back to disposables - spent a fortune as I leaked milk massively for the first 6 months.

Any tips for getting the washable ones clean? I might try them again with DD2.

WowOoo · 08/05/2011 19:16

I ran out of lansinoh ones and used sanitary towels cut into 3. Stick on, absorbent and very cheap! (and up until now, a dark secret of mine)

2BoysTooLoud · 08/05/2011 19:22

Another vote for Tescos.
Fine for me and price did matter...

MotherPanda · 08/05/2011 19:26

Heya, I start leaking at 22 weeks, and bought some of the wilkinsons breast pads, but to be honest, you might find it more comfy just to wear oval cotton wool pads till your babies born and your milk comes in - this is what i've been doing. As we are only leaking colostrum at the moment and there isnt too much flow they are less of a bother - especially in this heat.

nenevomito · 08/05/2011 19:28

My favourites were the tommee tippee thin ones they were lovely. I wore them during the day and at night wore the asda own brand ones as they were thick and fluffy IYSWIM.

papillonrouge · 08/05/2011 19:35

Just avoid the boots cheap own brand disposable ones - the edges catch and itch like mad - had to throw a full box out. Quality save did some great ones really cheap but can't remember the brand name.

runnyeggsareyummy · 08/05/2011 21:13

I didn't really leak much till I was breastfeeding but then I found that Asda ones were best for night/first thing in the morning (when I was really soggy- yuck) and then I'd just stick a washable one in for the rest of the day.

I also found that it was best NOT to fasten the pads in with the sticky patch as they tended to scrunch up and give me very misshapen boobs (an even worse shape than the nursing bras I mean!)! Even though they weren't stuck to the bra they never fell out, now that would have been embarrassing!

brizzagirl · 09/05/2011 10:33

Asda ones (and get a massive box of nappies for £12 while you are down there!!!).
