Freaking out about ECV this afternoon

Really want my natural waterbirth, pregnant with my first LO and currently breech. Going in to try ecv this afternoon and as much as I want to avoid a section, I am freaking out about the ecv!!
I have lovely consultant who has explained it all really well and says she will only try for 10 mins as if they are going to go they will in that time frame.
Am I just being a wuss?

No I'm sure you are not being a wuss! I have no experience or advice to offer as I'm only 24wks with 1st baby but just wanted to wish you all the best. I'm sure your nerves are 100% understandable. It sounds like you are in good hands with nice consultant.

Thanks!!
I was coping fine so not sure why I am suddenly freaking out!

I was in exactly the same situation as you. I wanted my home water birth and dd2 was breach at 37wks. I had an ECV and it worked, and I went on to have the home water birth I wanted.

The ECV was OK. I won't lie - it was painful but it was manageable. The consultant and the midwives were lovely and said they would stop if I couldn't cope with it. I had an injection to relax the muscles and then lay there deep breathing and thinking relaxing thoughts (!!) while they got on with it. My ECV was quite physical - the consultant really did have to push the baby round to get her to move but at the point when I thought I couldn't cope any more, dd2 just popped round! I did feel sore all over my bump area for the next day or so, almost like I'd had a massive chinese burn but it went fairly quickly.

Good luck - I'm sure you'll be fine. My DH came with me and was fascinated by the injection to relax your tummy muscles. He said he could see the muscles relax and was constantly trying to tell me jokes so that he could see the bump wobble alarmingly as I laughed!

Any news?

Hiya, unfortunately as I suspected my little bean had engaged it's little bum! So after 25mins of very painfull prodding etc it was a no go. Am now booked in for a section on the 13th may...not happy but know it's the right decision.
No idea what I need to pack in my hospital bag now so will be doing a post later for advice!!

Sorry didn't work but glad you got the ECV out the way and wishing you positive thoughts for the delivery.

I had an ECV with DD (my second) and she wouldn't budge. I was gutted and really didn't want a CS, tunred out to be an amazing birth (particularly after my 3rd degree tear and forceps birth that I had with DS).

Good luck and I'm sure it will actually turn out far better than you think it will. Smile
