It's been a while since I was in this pregnant place ( DS is 5 1/2). I've managed step 1 - get pregnant and step 2 - get requisite number of lines on a urine-soaked stick. Now, step 3 - tell a health professional, has reared it's head and I'm flummoxed already (the shame...doesn't bode well does it Grin).

Various websites have told me I should see a health professional "as soon as you know you are pregnant". To do this they have suggested I:
a- contact local childrens centre to see midwife
b- contact my GP practice to get an appointment with midwife
c- make an appointment with my GP.

So, is it A, B or C?
Also, do I need to see whomever asap? With DS I seem to recall the GP receptionist being rather peeved that I had bothered to contact the practice with such a trifling matter as early pregnancy and I think I didn't see midwife or GP for a few weeks...

Ring GP. Receptionist should be able to tell you what to do. I had to see the GP (although not before 8 weeks), who referred to a midwife. But it varies in different NHS areas.

Having said that, I kept letting my GP know to no avail so I ended up going through the children's centre to get my first MW appt.

It's confusing because different GPs' surgeries have different ways of dealing with early pregnant women. Even within the same town. So the only thing to do is follow the wise Mnetters' advice above and just ring your surgery's receptionists and ask what to do!

Congratulations on your BFP by the way!

Next thing on the list: sign into the relevant Mnet ante-natal club!
