Hi ladies I feel a bit daft for asking this - but as pregnancy is not 36 weeks long (unless you don't count the bit before you missed P that is which would explain it a little better to me) when I am in the third trimester - I am 24w tomorrow?

Also anyone else still feeling crap at this stage? I'm just so fed up of the constant nausea now (even though I am kinda thankful - as sickness started at 5 weeks - peaked at vomiting 6 to 7 times a day about week 10 and started to subside at week 18 to vomiting about 3 times a week now).

Any ideas for perking me up a bit? I'm thirsty all time but urine is fine - waking to pee 3 or 4 times a night so shattered - and my iron is fine so I know it's just teh disturbed sleep
I guess I just can't remember feeling this poop with my daughter 12 years ago. My mum kindly stated that's because I was young then (22) and I am old now (going on 34) - mums are so nice huh?

Also my last daft question- as I am new here can someone explain all the abbreviations to me? - or at least point me in the right direction so I can learn them.

Third trimester is from 28 weeks, if it really matters. That is from LMP, so exactly 6 months from conception.

Kazzy678 · 30/04/2011 17:45

I would mention how you feel to your midwife as I felt really bad at this stage too and I had a feeling it was low iron so got my Dr to prescribe me some and within a week I felt better. Then a few weeks later I found out that I had a water infection took some anti biotics and felt even better still this also stopped my 2-3 hourly toilet trips. I would ask them to repeat the tests just to be on the safe side.

I hope there is a link to the abbreviations as there are probably loads that I don't know either. Any in particular you need to know? Here are a few I know off the top of my head

LMP is last monthly period
OH - Other half
DS/DD - Darling son/ Daughter
LO -Little one
CM - cervical mucus (nice!)
MW - Midwife

Hope that helps a little
x

Evie, I too am nearly 24 weeks and could have written most of the above! First child, am 30, and take comfort (?!) in the fact my Mum suffered like this with me (her first, and exactly same age). One of my friends also suffered so bad with her first, and she was 16/17 so I am sure its not an age thing! Surely t our age we are pro's at coping with whatever is thrown at us?!

I am so glad you asked about abbreviations! I guess that means DH = Darling Husband?

maxpower · 30/04/2011 18:39

there's a link to all the abbreviations from this page here

candr · 30/04/2011 19:46

If you scroll down past last message it has all the abbreviations, sorry you are feeling rough ladies, hope the sun has cheered you up if only from a cool room x

34 isn't old!

I have stopped drinking much past about 6/7pm to try and cut down the night time loo visits, think it has helped a bit.

Sleep in the day if you can?

Booboostoo · 30/04/2011 21:16

If it's any help I have felt pretty crap through out the whole pregnancy.

I had 24/7 nausea (no vomiting though) till 5.5 months, and then it returned at 30 weeks (34 now and stilll nauseous). I am constantly tired, sometimes I just have to go to sleep no matter what. I had horrific muscles cramps over night, but luckily magnesium is helping with that and I need to pee very often (like you this is very annoying at night).

Eviepoo · 30/04/2011 21:42

Thanks ladies for the info...

Yes I forgot about the cramps and the numb hands during the night, they are contributing to the frequent wakings. As for naps, i'm not so great at getting to sleep at night never mind during the day, however, I am having a lie down and reading a bit quite often at weekends and early evenings after work.

I am lucky, as my DH is brilliant, he's been doing most of the jobs round the house and making the dinner as I feel so sickly and evenings are the worst time.

is the numb hands a pregnant thing? I assumed its cos i been sleeping funny

Honeydragon · 30/04/2011 21:48

look at options where you have talk and threads above the blue topic bar, it has a option for acronyms Smile

theonlyhb2 - my MW said the extra fluid that you carry in pregnancy (and boy am I! - lots of swelling in hands, feet and ankles and wedding ring and engagement ring is off now) can cause extra pressure in your wrists causing carpal tunnel syndrome, which essentially means you can get pain and numbness in your hands. It will go away when your fluids return to normal after the birth. My MW told me if it becomes a problem to call the physio dept at my local hospital and they will be able to give me wrist splints. I suggest mentioning it to you MW if it gets bad.

discobeaver yes I have tried the evening drinks deadline, but problem is then between 11 and 12 I wake and down a pint of water because I feel so dry. So instead I am trying to drink lots in the day (water mainly for hydration and to try keep the swelling at bay), then just sip water in the evening. I have also taken to leaving my night time glass of water on the bookcase in the hall and when I get up to visit the loo I allow myself one mouthfull, if I put it next to the bed I've downed it by 1am :) oh the daft things I do

Glad you asked. I'm just 24 weeks too. Wasnt sure when 3rd trimester starts either. I've been v tired from doing normal housework and walking dog activity. Not sure about my iron count (though been taking preg vitamins so should be ok) as haven't seen mw for 8 weeks and won't see Doc for another week yet. Seems a long time to be left on my own without any checks but probably the norm?

Sorry you've been so sicky. That is miserable but at least it sounds like getting better.

ShazGJ · 01/05/2011 07:02

So glad other people have mentioned the numb hands thing, I keep waking up with no feeling in my left hand, thought it was how I was lying. Relieved to know it's just another pregnancy thing :)

theonlyhb2 · 01/05/2011 10:25

rootatoot - I am impressed you manage dog walking! I have no idea how I am ever going to get used to it again

I shall mention the hands to the midwife too, I am sure I just go there and moan abut new symptoms!
