Bump cannot stop itself making me pee in the middle of the night, but I'm finding it hard getting back to sleep. Not so bad at weekends, but increasingly becoming a killer mid week!Any tips?

Not really, just sympathy...Sometimes deep breathing or counting backwards from 1000 helps me, but sometimes it doesn't. Horrid, isn't it.

My bump's doing the same thing (24wks). I think it's because you get up, and you're processing the information that bump made you wee, then unconsciously you start thinking about the baby and what you want for them, or what your current worry is about the bump and/or baby! The middle of the night's a good time for fretting and your imagination running away with you, isn't it?!
If you can, don't turn on lights when you get up, so your body doesn't think it's morning with the lights coming on. Counting backwards like above isgood too, I do stretching and relaxing exercises once I'm back in bed and comfortable, starting with my toes (tense then relax. I never get above my knees before I'm asleep again!)
Otherwise, wake your DH up and make them share the pain! :)

Lurking for any tips. Atm (35 weeks), I'm being woken up at 11:45 and 4:30 every night like clockwork and sometimes 2:30ish just to really screw up my sleep. I go to the loo then baby starts squirming and I can't get back to sleep for about 1/2 hour or more. It'll be interesting to see if the baby wakes at those times for a feed.

I tend to read a bit and usually fall asleep pretty soon but if it is really bad I'll go downstairs and watch a bit of tv. Very frustrating though as I really need my sleep. Last night I was awake for 2 hours but that was DS and DD also.

i have this problem, only solved by my anti sickness tablets (as they knock me out) so I sleep for 5 hours in a row instead of 2.

driving me mad as I was always VERY good at sleeping for many hours, even if I needed to get up for a wee.

Play the alphabet game.

Choose a subject - food, girls names, characters in Eastenders, famous sexy men etc. Then go through the alphabet trying to think of something in the category starting with each letter. So apple, bread, cherries, doughnuts, eggs, flan etc.

Keeps your mind away from the worrying things that seem worse in the middle of the night, and actually a pretty dull game in itself - I'm usually asleep by j or k!!

I drink a lot in the morning and afternoon, then stop into the evening so I'm less likely to get up I'm the night. It seems to work quite well! Also, we put a small motion sensitive light in the bathroom (a few £ from diy shop) which means I don't have to wake myself up with the main brighter light.

I had the same thing with DS, I was up at 12:30 and 4:30 (give or take) every night for a wee - weirdly enough when he was born those were the same times he used to wake up for his night feeds.

With this one I'm up at 2:30ish every night, even if I avoid drinking before bed. When I get up I pull the duvet over to keep the bed warm, I don't put any lights on at all, I go pee and I go straight back to bed (I used to detour via DS's room to check on him). Some nights it takes longer than others but I usually drop off again fairly quickly.

Thanks ladies - for the tips and sympathy. I usually wake about 3 hours after I go to bed and then at 330ish. Guess I just need to keep going - and know that I am not alone! only another 20 weeks to go ;)

yeah the fluid thing makes no difference to me really, as often I wake and when I go a few drops come out, and it can be like that the next 3 times (and I am still not drinking anything) then the 4th time its a river.......no sense to it!

Staceroo · 01/05/2011 21:55

I've stopped putting the bathroom light on! It has made a huge difference, I can get back to sleep straight away now!

Though I soon learnt to make sure I cleared the path around the bed before going to bed! Stubbing your toe in the dark definately doesn't help when trying to get back to sleep!

I think one of the best things I was told is NEVER check the time. Notice I slip back off easier if I don't. I barely open my eyes to go to the loo!
