Glider chairs

Trying to finish off kitting out our nursery. Would anyone recommend one of those glider chairs for feeding/helping baby sleep or are they a waste of money?

Thanks!

For my first I looked around but eventually settled on a chair (and footrest) form Ikea - it worked for me and I had no problems with it!

The glider chairs are quite expensive which was also a deciding factor whereas my ikea chair was about £55 plus the footrest!

I would say that its worth trying some out plus also look at resale value of them

My MIL just treated me to one (6 weeks before due with DC1), which is lovely of her. Have been sitting in it and it's lovely and I'm hoping it will make night time feeds that little bit less awful.

As it's so comfy I am sure it will be used by everyone way beyond just first few years. Got it from John Lewis, only issue is it's a lovely, but deeply impractical shade of beige!

Will be putting a throw on it methinks.

I spendt months looking for a chair to BF DD in. It was used once and has spent the last year covered in spare blankets.

I got one off eBay - there are lots on there and much cheaper than new. Haven't actually given birth yet so no idea how useful it'll be for BF but DH & I already fight over who's going to sit in it while we watch tv!

I got mine when dd was about 3 months and it was a god send. We still read stories in it at night time (it is now in her room) and she is 2.8!

I've been very kindly given one by one of DP's mates, their child is now 5 and they dont need it, its BRILLIANT. Havent had baby yet but can imagine it will be amazing for BF and rocking baby to sleep. We've had it 2 weeks and ive already come downstairs in the middle of the night and found DP asleep in it after rocking himself to sleep twice Grin
I agree with the Ebay comments, you can get them more cheaply on there if you are prepared to pick them up or else Kiddicare.com has them and they offer excellent service (ive found personally).

I got one off Gumtree - waaaay cheaper than new! Also, don't panic about the cream cushions, they clean up a treat.

Nice to have but don't buy a new one! I only used mine a couple of times as night feeds generally used to happen in bed!

PrincessScrumpy · 28/04/2011 19:21

I thought it would be a waste of money but my mum let us borrow one of her rocking chairs (one of a pair) for dd1 and I used it so much for feeds as I couldn't get comfy in bed for feeding. Now pg with twins, mum sadly wants the chair back as they've moved and have the ideal place for the pair of chairs. Mum has said she'll buy us a glider chair to replace it.

I wouldn't have bothered with dd1, but now I know how much I loved it, I would with dc2 and 3.

I got a great second hand one off ebay - I love it, SO comfortable. Never breast fed in it once though. Nice chair, just turned out to have nothing to do with the baby.

BertieBotts · 28/04/2011 20:26

I loved mine :) Belonged to our old landlord though so had to leave behind when we moved.

Agree they are much cheaper second hand.

Tealdoe · 30/04/2011 22:19

Thanks alot for the advice everyone! I think I'll probably go for a second hand one

I used it for bfing in front of the telly during the day. At night I always just bf'd in bed, lying down on my side from what I remember.
