This pregnancy lark is expensive

And I don't mean baby stuff. Just stuff for myself while pregnant. Ok, so I know that some of this stuff isn't 100% essential, but I'm just noticing that this pregnancy lark is pricey! Hmm

Off the top of my head:
Maternity clothes - I've tried to keep it to a minimum and I've bought stuff from ebay, but it still adds up
NCT class - don't even get me started on that one! Grin
Pregnacare multi-vits
Parking fees at the many hospital visits - having twins so being seen quite often, it's never less than £3!
Nightwear - I don't wear anything in bed at night, but I guess it would be a decent thing to do to buy some for going to the hospital in Grin
Bigger knickers - well, a thong on a pregnant lady just doesn't seem right! Hmm
New bras - I've gone up 2 sizes already

Ok, moan over. Thank you Grin

I hear ya Brassicababe. I'm afraid to add up what I have spent already.

LaToada · 27/04/2011 16:18

I spent a fortune in my first pregnancy. In this second not a penny, so keep everything and you can reuse clothes bras etc and flog what you no longer want on eBay

I bought 3 pairs of pj's in primark for just a few quid

I use cheapo supermarket own vitamins. Often on 3 for 2

Oh and I bought giant 5 pairs for £2.50 pants on tesco. Not sexy but then neither am I at present Grin

I've just spent £220 on maternity clothes. Being bored at work is dangerous!

I'm hoping most of them won't fit and I'll have to send them back:)

Helzapoppin · 27/04/2011 17:06

If you think pregnancy is expensive, try having children! :)

Fluter · 27/04/2011 17:47

Hmmm. I got lucky on the clothes: SIL has lent me her maternity wardrobe. Also having twins, I know what you mean about the parking, but discovered a 2 hour free parking spot round the back and across the road from the maternity bit of the hospital so I don't have to pay :o

And ditto on the vitamins: 3 for 2 is brilliant - especially on the iron supplements.

But the bras.... yup. Expensive: but sooooooo worth it. It's not often I put a new bra on and realise how much the old one HURT.

Now just rifling through the baby stuff left over from when my brother and I were that age (he's 42 and I'm 39, so it's lasted rather well), and remembering exactly how little my mum actually needed for us, and comparing it to what Mothercare et al swear blind you really have to have or you'll be a terrible parent.

My deep Yorkshire genes are showing through good and strong!!!

i am almost 20 weeks and not bought any maternity yet. gonna try and pull out my pre weight loss clothes.

i need a new bra though and slowly buying stuff for my little boy. got sheets today and all i can say is ouch.

theonlyhb2 · 27/04/2011 18:22

I am LOVING Tesco pants at the mo.....I have gone from a size 8/10 to 14 (even though I havent really got that fat) so keep having to buy lots of new pairs.

Bra's, tops, dresses, leggings.....its not so much outwards as the width issue I am finding!

Food.....whatever my cravings might be. I cant seem to eat food cooked in the house as the smell makes me puke (or I puke it up after anyway) yet I can quite happily munch KFC and it stay down. The amount i have spent on ready made food I would normally cook myself for a fraction of the price makes me want to cry

Vitamins (which I always forget to take)

Disney DVD's, a new bed, a new dyson (well, if I dont get now I never will ;) )

I havent even bought any baby stuff! 24 weeks now.....maybe I should start thinking a bit more about these things

jasmine51 · 27/04/2011 18:26

Wait til the nesting starts...paint, new curtains, new patio doors (cos old ones were just not wide enough for buggy),new shelving.....

TurtlesAreRetroRight · 27/04/2011 18:29

I've begged, borrowed and stolen maternity clothes and made some maternity dresses from fabric remnants.

I eat healthily so no need for vitamins (though I did spend about £1.50 on folic acid when I needed it).

I park a distance from the hospital and walk in (no parking fees).

I have bought a few bras though. That's the only expense so far.

Saved money on food too with the sickness and lack of appetite.

BrassicaBabe · 27/04/2011 18:30

Oh feck, yes, I fogot I need a new mattress too. We're currently sleeping on the one from the spare room which is too small and too deep for the bed we're in because the normal mattress was painful on just about every joint in my body Hmm

Maternity clothes Got those for a quid per item "hire" from NCT
Pregnacare multi-vits, NCT class Didn't bother, or couldn't get in anyway.
Parking fees Walked, cycled, too the train or the bus (not an option for all, I know)..

But I think if you are expecting twins, the costs so far are only a drop in the ocean, poor you!

Valiant1 · 27/04/2011 18:40

what is NCT? Am interested in the hire of maternity clothes!!

Cattleprod · 27/04/2011 18:46

I have to get a new car.

It's either that or shove DC2 in the back of my van!!!

lolajane2009 · 27/04/2011 18:46

Valiant1 · 27/04/2011 18:53

lolajane2009 · 27/04/2011 20:03

lol i dont think it will ever leave me... i somehow knew he was a boy and its nice to be proved right.

otchayaniye · 27/04/2011 20:10

My Asherman's treatment, antenatal care and birth first time cost 30k :) (was private) - but worth every penny!

This one is on the cheap though. Clothes from eBay, never bought a pram or buggy for my first and may not this time around either, don't and didn't have a cot. That's about all I'm buying. Having another girl so clothes/infant seat will be recycled!
