I'm just wondering as I would really like to lose a bit of my fat! Any safe diets?

I'm in the same boat, was half stone over my ideal weight and was just about to start a diet when I fell pregnant. Then have felt awful since then and the only thing keeping MS at bay is salty snacks.
I think the best advice is that we should just aim to eat healthily and sensibly. Having watched BBC3 last night and the girls eating chips at midnight I felt a bit better!!

Hello there - I was just the same - a STONE over my favourite weight before I got up the duff, after the world's most indulgent holiday. I'd bought all these Weightwatchers recipe books in, then found out it was a touch too late.

I read that the issue is with losing weight is that it can put substances into your body as a by-product of burning fat that are harmful for the baby. That may be nonsense though - just some gubbins I read online.

I agree with WrensNest that it is probably best just to eat sensibly and not worry too much. That way, you may not put on too much weight with the pregnancy, which limits what you have to lose afterwards. I have put on little or nothing so far (11 and a half weeks or so) and I'm happy with that....

My GP told me it's perfectly safe, as long as it's done slowly and you don't use a specific diet (e.g. Atkins).

In other words, cutting down portion size is ok.

Clubs such as Slimming World are also perfectly safe and very healthy. I think they require a midwife's signature, and will obviously be looking at minimising weight gain as opposed to losing it per se as your pregnancy progresses.

i know its not quite the same but many many people with bad sickness loose weight in the 1st trimester.

I lots a stone in 3 weeks with HG and dr / midwives were really not bothered at all. I was hospitalised and dehydrtaed and my bosy was digesting itself, as it had absorbed no food at all for weeks, so thought i was starving to death, and the answer was always not to worry, baby would be fine, and baby will get its requirements from me no matter what!

Not suggesting that starving yourself is a good idea at all, but when HG gives you no choice in the matter drs / midwives arnt worried about baby because of it

I'm about 2 stone overweight, and was on a diet (which was going quite well!) before I found out I was pregnant.

What I'm doing now is trying to be sensible about what I eat and not use pregnancy as an excuse to pig out, but be much more aware of the quality/ nutritional value of what I'm eating, so making an effort to have more fresh fruit, veg, calcium and iron rich foods, enough protein, fiber from wholegrains etc. But I'm not expecting or still trying to lose any weight because I keep seeing advice that says even if you're overweight you shouldn't try to lose it in pregnancy. But I'm hoping not to gain too much either.

I gained a lot in my first trimester (about 1 stone) so really watched what I ate for the rest of the pregnancy (ended up gaining 2 stone in total). It wasn't Atkins or anything but I did focus on eating protein and fat and cut back on carbohydrates (still ate fruit and the occaisional starchy stuff). I felt really healthy and all the weight seemed to go where it should, to the bump.
