Has anybody tried acupuncture for morning sickness?

I've never had acupuncture before, but went to see my GP again today about my morning sickness.

This GP and the one that I saw before didn't want me taking anti-emetics but today's GP was so lovely and reassuring and convinced me to try acupuncture - which he did then and there.

He say's it's had a high success rate with morning sickness and I should feel better tomorrow.

I currently don't feel any better, but am hopeful.

Has anyone else had this?

I got accupuncture a few weeks ago after being sick for 3months and it did help me loads!
It did take a while and a few sessions but I stopped throwing up in the first week and after two weeks was back on "normal" foods which was a huge achievement. I had 6 sessions and then swapped to the accupressure wrist bands (against travel sickness) as I was doing much better by than. 4 weeks on and morning sickness is a thing of the past though I still insist on DH getting me breakfast in bed Grin

I had never had accupuncture before and was a bit dubious about it but I can only recommend it now. My doc used points on the upper tummy and on the wrists which seemed to work for me.

Hope you feel much better soon and maybe try out the wrist bands for in between session if you feel you need more help against the nausea. It might not feel like it right now but it'll get better!

yes, i did and it was v good, as it seems to be for pretty much everything i've tried it for (my gp also recommends it)

Really? Would be very interested to see this study supporting his view? as far as I am aware acupuncture has been shown to have no more effect than placebo.

That's what I thought 4pudding, but at this point I'll try anything!

Does anyone know of any studies?

Hello
I am 20 weeks. I had HG and was really very very poorly.

I had my 1st accupuncture session a few days after i was discharged from hospital. (for HG) I was told by all the nurses i would be back, and they would be happy if my anti-sick tabs, allowed me to not dehydrate to the extent that id need to be in hospital again, and i must expect to keep being sick. (i was sick again lol)

I went to accupuncture weekly from week 9 - 17.
It certainly DID help (and they say that hardly anything helps if you have HG)

What really helped was a few weeks in, when i started having needle plasters inserted. (so instead of a travel sickness band providing pressure, i had a needle in the exact spot instead)
this really started to give me some extra help (dont think i had them until week 13 / 14)... they were only in for a few days at a time, but when in i was less sick, and when out i would get VERY poorly.
I highly recommend it , especially the needle plasters.

am now 20 weeks, still on tabs, but dont feel like death anymore, and am only sick every 2nd / 3rd day now.

Go for it. Anything is worth a little relief IMO.
