Reduncancy insurance whilst on maternity leave

I know this is a bit of a long shot, but has anyone else been in this position?:

I was made redundant at the end of December. I then found out I was pregnant on the 8th January. I had taken out redundancy insurance a couple of years prior to this, so am currently receiving monthly payments (for up to 12 months).

The T&Cs on the policy don't mention anything about pregnancy or maternity leave, but I have to be in receipt of jobseekers allowance to be eligible for my monthly insurance payments. However the jobcentre have told me at 29 weeks I will be moved on to statutory maternity pay as standard protocol.

I daren't tell my insurance company about my pregnancy. And I could really do without losing the monthly payments. So I don't really know what to do.

Although my pregnancy was planned, my redundancy wasn't (!). As a bit of a career girl, it is pretty stressful to find myself unemployed (and realistically unemployable atm) without also worrying about losing all my insurance benefits from 29 weeks too.

Thanks in advance.

I would expect they would stop until you are back on jobseekers' allowance. If you were still in employment you would get maternity pay rather than full wage so that is what the insurance will mimic. Not sure about the 6 weeks at 90% though.

The moneysavingexpert forums are very good at this sort of thing if you don't the answer here.

Thanks 4pudding - that is what I suspect too.

I can see it from their point of view, but rather frustrating from my point of view, as if I had been in employment I would have been bringing in rather more than my insurance payments (and so would have been able to save up to cover the shortfall in pay during maternity leave).

Another reason for me to feel angry at Messrs Blair, Brown, Cameron and Osborne I guess!!
