hello

I'm really sick of freaking out over every little thing and sorry if this is a silly question but is prepacked ham (not the stuff on the deli counter) ok to eat?

Is there a risk of toxoplasmosis?

Having a bit of a scary time at the mo' as have more amniotic fluid than I should and the consultant has said it could be a sign of an infection such as toxoplasmosis. (please no...) I then stumbled across a thread about ham and toxoplasmosis and am now fretting away.

Will get blood test results on thursday but in the mean time I am just worrying. I eat ham practically every lunchtime.

argh

not that i'm aware of it should be fine as it's cooked just the same as over the deli ham.

I am sure it is fine. The only thing is once it is opened it is supposed to be eaten within x number of days (check the packet). Personally I would eat it after 3 days if the packet said 2 days, but in your position best to stick with the advice?
Possibly it is safer than the deli ham, depending on levels of hygiene.
If you are really worried then cook some gammon yourself and keep it in the fridge, eat with 2-3 days.

Its fine as long as you heat it to steaming before you eat it. I usually do 25 seconds in the microwave.

I have never been warned off cooked ham and have been stuffing my face with it for the past 28 weeks of pregnancy to no ill-effects. I think this baby will be made of ham!

The problem with ham and toxo is to do with uncooked, cured ham eg parma, proscuitto etc.

Cooked ham, either prepacked or from the deli counter will be fine.
