clary sage on a tissue to smell and keep it by the bed overnight too but I'm afraid it will happen when it happens

Castor oil worked for me. Labour started in about 45 mins, diahorrea in about 30 mins Shock. Its really NOT PLEASANT to be running for the loo when you are 9 months gone, let alone in early labour, but I was desperate. This was the last thing I tried, after trying everything else and getting seriously threatened with induction (which I was terrified of).

Things that didnt work for me by the way:
sex
curry
long walks every evening
sweep (failed because cervix was not within reach)
reflexology - (enjoyable!)
drinking tons of raspberry leaf tea
big glass of wine

best of luck!

Toto when are you due?

You are going to have to let us know if any of these tricks work!!!

TotorosOcarina · 23/04/2011 18:57

Am due in a week but figure its better to start now than wait till im a week over!

i did all this with my 2nd and 3rd and they came on time/2 days early.

with DS1 i did nothing and he was induction at 15 days over!

Actually DS2 came after a spicey curry, a shag and 2 or 3 rides on a miniture train!

again ... not at the same time!

Well good luck, you have clearly been here before and it worked so go for it, probably not all at the same time though like you have said!

I have three weeks left and am hoping for an early arrival, not sure I could do the castor oil thing but am bouncing on my exercise ball as we speak in hope that maybe it helps move baby even further down.

Good luck and like I said before, let us know if it works Smile

I tried all the above with dd2 - I don't think any of them worked. My midwife told me that maybe I was not psychologically ready to have the baby and that I should sit and think positive thoughts and visualise holding the baby and tell it I was ready!

I had been stressing about what I would do if I went into labour during a week day as dh worked over 50 miles away and my folks were both at work and I was worrying about who would look after our dd who was 18 mths old. So on the friday when I was 10 days over my parents had the day off and offered to take dd out for the day to give me a rest. I had a really lazy morning and did a bit of "visualisation", got baby stuff ready, checked bags packed etc. About lunchtime I started having contractions and called hubbie to come home before the friday rush started. By the time he got back I was in labour. He took me into the hospital and within 2 hours we had a baby!

I am old(er) and a wife - so hope this old wives tale is of some help Grin!

Funny you should say that Sam, even though i'm ready, i'm not ready as I need to sort his baby stuff out, clean his cot and sort my bag out.

It feels kind of like a block.

Maybe if I get that done and I know theres nothing holding me back then I'll go Grin

MrsShrekTheThird · 23/04/2011 21:05

my labours all started immediately after a good sh@g. Unfortunately for dd it was almost a month early, but hey it was an easy birth Grin

Don't mean to be a downer, but nothing decking works! Babies arrive when they want to, or don't! I've had 3DCs and one was born 41+3 and another 42... Strangely my 2nd came right on time. I tried so many things to bring on labour with the late ones: strenuous walks, bouncing, curries, sex, pineapple, castor oil, etc etc etc. Nothing bloody worked and made me feel even worse because I was trying too hard!

You'll get through it, and the baby will arrive and you'll wonder why it felt like such a big deal. Keep strong!

Decking?! iPad won't let me swear!
