Placenta Previa

Hi

I am new to this site and hoping to find people who are either in the similar situation or who have been.

I am 35 weeks pregnant and have a partial placenta previa. My consultant has told me that I have to go back for another scan and providing it has not moved I will have to be admitted until I am delivered at 39 weeks. She wanted me in at 36 weeks but couldn't get a scan appointment until 37 weeks. She told me to take it easy and avoid sex, she said any hint of blood and I am to go into hospital.

I am just really not sure what I should and should not be doing. I have toddler and look after him every day should I avoid lifting him? What is classed as heavy housework?

I feel absolutly fine so am struggling to know what I should and should not do.

Hope someone can help

Sorry for the long post!

Kaz

You should be taking it easy, but thats easier said then done with a toddler!

Can someone help you during that day so you can get some bed best? Agree that if you see any blood, even small you must go into hospital.

Is it complete previa?

thank you for your reply. It is only just at the neck of the cervix so I guess this is not as bad?

Luckily as it is the easter break most people in my family have taken the time off so I have plenty of people around and my step son is coming for a week today, he is 15 and loves his little brother so will no doubt be a great help.

The fact that youve had no spotting or bleeding is good, but you really should take it easy. Tell your family it's doctors orders and let them help out as much as poss. Don't take any risks, it's not worth it.

I had that until about 36-37 weeks, went for a scan and it had moved. My DS was then breech so booked in for a c sec anyway!
Glad you've got people to help, rest as much as you can :)

Mine is abutting and is 2cm away from cervix. I am going back in 2 weeks (will be 33 and a half weeks by then) to check again. No one has told me to take it easy though.

Thanks ladies, I am hoping it does move and then I wont have to be admitted but they said that as it has not moved since 20 weeks it is unlikley another 3 weeks will make a difference.

I was only told to take it easy at my 34 week scan where as I know other people are told earlier. Maybe it depends on how close to the cervix it is.

Mine is right at the edge, but not covering. Had a scan at 32 weeks and found it hadn't moved at all since 20 weeks, now have another scan booked for 36 weeks. If they find it still hasn't moved and suddenly insist on keeping me at the hospital for the next 3-4 weeks after not warning me that was a possibility I will not be happy!

Haven't had any problems, no bleeding, haven't been told to take it easy and in fact have been doing everything I normally do (cycling lots, walking, building furniture as we've just moved house) just feeling a bit more tired than previous months but I chalk that up to being 34 weeks more than anything, and not sleeping so well anymore.

They did tell me that if I experienced any bleeding I had to go to the hospital right away, but otherwise afaik after the 36 week scan we start discussing options of what will happen if it still doesn't move. I'm hoping it will have moved even a little bit so I can get another scan a week or two later and maybe the all-clear for a homebirth.

I understand that grade 3-4 PP is more risky though, so your situation may be different.
