Just realised that in 3 weeks I may be induced (fingers crossed!) and we have nothing ready apart from nappies on the changing unit.

THe clothes need unpacking and washing, the crib is still in its box in the loft, the pram needs scrubbing and polishing, I have checked and we have 2 pram sheets, 3 blankets and thats it bedding wise. Oh, I do have the bottles etc but that was only because they were on a super dooper offer a few months ago!

the think is, that even three weeks with this stuff hanging around with no baby to use it seems too long! When should I pull my finger out and get cracking? We do have a sling btw, well 2 actually because I bought one and then found our old one in the loft :o

Chuck the baby clothes in the machine today and they will be dry and away by tomorrow evening.

Delegate the building of the crib to DP or suitably clever child.

Bugger the rest of it. The world won't end and its too nice outside to nest indoors.

As my NCT lady said to me last night, the only things you truly need when a baby is born are some nappies and clothes (and formula if you aren't breast feeding).

ong I'm so glad someone else is just as laid back as me!! My friend has been telling me for 3 weeks to pack my hosp bag (I'm 34+5) and although I've started I'm nowhere near done! THe moses basket is still in the loft...the car seat cover needs washing...ooh and I need to decorate and fit a kitchen haha fun times :)

soandsosmum · 22/04/2011 10:21

yep I'm with you. not really 'ready' but feeling nice a relaxed :-)

hoping Mothercare might be more empty due to nice weather this weekend...

Smacks forehead with hand HOSPITAL BAG!

I hadnt even thought of that! Up until last week I was booked for home (and still will if I dont get induced) so I didnt give it a thought. And yes, I know I should have a bag packed anyway just in case but .... cant be bothered :o

I did sort the crib out yesterday in a fit of efficiency, but I dont see anything else happening anytime soon!

My baby is due in 9 days so could come any time. All its things are piled up in my room as the nursery doesn't even have paint on the walls yet. We have bought furniture but it is at my in-laws as we have nowhere to put it until the nursery is done. We do have a pram and a Moses basket buried under the piles, and the clothes are washed but I have nowhere to put them away. I am hoping DH might crack on with the decorating etc while he is off work for a few days, but he has gone out for the morning. Good thing I am reasonably relaxed about it otherwise I might have screamed at him about the lack of progress by now.

A word of warning for you Stegasaurus!

When my friend had her second their spare room was still a spare room and not a nurtsery a week before she was due. She was fed up and ended up in a row with her DH about it and he said "I am on holiday for 2 weeks after the baby comes so I am doing the nursery the first week and the lounge the second week"

It took some explaining that the whole point of his PATERNITY LEAVE was not that it was a holiday but that he would be taking care of their older child, doing school runs, running the house etc as my friend got over her birth, established feeding etc. He didnt get it AT ALL! As far as he was concerned she would be up and about straight away and wouldnt need any help, and he would accept that she didnt need all that doing first time around because they didnt have other children then and ff rather than bf!

In the end he very begrudgingly did the nursery but still insisted on decorating the lounge on his PL, and to this day cant understand what the problem was. I would be having a chat if were you to see exactly what his plans are!

Here's a couple of lists that help you know what to buy/get together:

I hope this is the kick up your bum you need - and that the links work!

bogeyface men continue to amaze me!

and IMO being relaxed is far from a bad thing, getting stressed and anxious can cause so many problems, enjoy feeling relaxed xxx

juneau · 25/04/2011 08:15

I'm 37 weeks today and I still haven't packed my hospital bag (mind you, last time I did it while having contractions!), although I have washed the baby clothes and we put the pram together on Saturday. My first child was early too.
