Just got a call from the hospital to say that teh Downs screening results have put me in the high risk category. I have an appt in an hour and I am absolutely distraught. I just need someone to calm me down please.

blackbutterfly, thanks for your post. My NT was high, my HcG was high and PAPP-A low, but I'm not sure exactly without looking at the results what they were. Thanks for the info about normal levels, I've been trying to find this out, with no luck, so will be able to compare when I have a look at my notes.

I went for CVS today. I couldn't wait any longer, and they had a slot free this afternoon, so I am now recovering with a sore belly. It does mean I'll get the early results back by the weekend rather than in 12 days time, which is the reason I went for it.

I am still worried but at least I'll know sooner. I was told at my counselling session last week about the new blood test they are trialling, but wasn't asked to take part. What a wonderful thing that would be if they can get it going - would take all the worry about invasive testing away.

Good luck with your pregnancy! And thanks so much for your posts, I've had so much support, I really appreciate it.

I hope you get the all clear back from CVS this weekend.
Keep us posted and good luck!

Hi,

We had a high Nuchal fold - 3.6 mm and my bloods were not good either, combined with my age - 39 I was given a 1:2 chance of downs for our baby. As you can imagine I was dumfounded - first pregnancy had no problems at all. I had a really unconfortable CVS straight away with a very negative obstetrician and then had to wait 2 weeks for the results. The results came back clear, much to our amazment as we had been so worried, not sleeping for that long is stressful. We then had a fetal heart scan in London at 15 weeks. Again results were fine. Today I just had a scan at 18 weeks - they do the 18-20 week scans early for high risk ladies. Again we have the all clear. I have to wait for a repeat heart scan in London at 22 weeks for tiny abnormalities to be detected but we are so relieved and happy now I dont mind any more. I realise we are lucky and we have fingers crossed for a smooth rest of the pregnancy. These screenings early on are just that, and give risk factors that can frighten but for anyone going through this try to keep positive.

Thanks Geogal for your post - I'm so pleased it's all working out for you. Noone has mentioned doing earlier scans for me, I'll query that with the mw next time.

Just got my results back and got the all clear for the big 3. I am so relieved! Thank you all so much for your support, I would not have survived without it.

All the best to everyone expecting and waiting.

So relieved for you.

PoppysMom · 29/04/2011 03:24

Fantastic news! I am so happy for you x

dollyshouse · 29/04/2011 03:51

thinking of you evansmummy, just to let you know that I had two elective amnios with my son (6) and daughter (4) and both were fine. I decided to have elective as an older mum (44 now and 5 weeks pg) and will be doing again if lucky enough to get that far! the procedure is a little uncomfortable and you have to rest and take it easy for two days afterwards (no sex either) so take the time off work if you can, but they are scanning the whole time the procedure is carried out so the baby isn't harmed. I really hope it goes well, good luck XX

dollyshouse · 29/04/2011 03:54

D'oh only just seen your last post FANTASTIC news am so so pleased for you, enjoy the rest of the pregnancy xx

evansmummy · 29/04/2011 13:45

cattleprod, good luck with the sorting. I'm hopelessly anal about these things so mine are sorted into those vacuum bags with big size labels on the front Blush

Thanks for all the lovely messages. Starting to feel some early flutterings and so pleased I can appreciate them without worry now!

What wonderful news evansmummy

evansmummy · 04/05/2011 14:45

Thanks both of you. The posts helped enormously, I honestly don't know how I would have got through it without them. MN is great in times of crisi, it has been proven to me again and again.
