39 weeks and blood in urine

So I went to the MW today even though I was not due to see her for another week because I've been in real discomfort since monday with irregular period like cramps very low in the bump and across my back. She started off by telling me that it was probably latent labour and that I need to just relax, enjoy the sunshine etc but then discovered blood in my urine. I need to provide another sample tomorrow to be sent off and she wants to see me again straight after Easter first thing on Tuesday. Although she seemed reasonably calm about it I detected a change in her demeanour which is worrying me now - even more so because I've been complaining of "irritation" down below since 36 weeks - was tested for thrush which came back negative and today is the first time (I think) that my urine has been tested for blood (as opposed to protein as per usual appointments). So I'm worried that if I do have a UTI its been hanging about for at least a month. Baby is moving and his heartbeat was nice and strong. I'm probably just been my usual over-analytical worrying self - if she was really concerned surely she would have got me a prescription for antibiotics there and then.

Just wondered if anyone else had had experience of a UTI when pregnant?

I've had a UTI in all my pregnancies (along with persistent and constant thrush for the 7 months of this pg) due to dehydration. When I've wiped with a UTI there was always purpley/red blood and obvious blood in urine BUT if there was a fair bit of straeky blood in your urine it could be your show/mucus plug? Mine was very bloody but a browny gungy type blood, if it looks like fresh bright red blood its probably a UTI, old browny blood it'll be your show.

Hi Sloathy - hoping all is ok for you today. Take care.

Sloathy, to try & put your mind at rest a little, the usual dipsticks that are used for protein and glucose also test for blood/haemoglobin (the major component of red blood cells) and white cells/leukocytes (I'm not a Dr or MW but I have a carton which a colleague gave me - long irrelevant story). So the chance of this having been undetected but significant enough to cause blood in your urine or significant problems is very low. Your MW's lack of relative concern probably indicates that this is very common and that baby is well, and if she isn't too worried, I would try and keep calm (although I know how tough that will be) until after the BH weekend. hth a little.
