Just been to doc's to confirm am pg with DC2 and 6 weeks gone

But can't see midwife until 10 weeks as no mw 1st appointments. Slightly concerned as by the time I get there to properly book in, will I then have to wait longer than a fortnight to get the 12 week scan?

Do I sneak in with a 10 minute appointment just to get the scan booked and then go to the 1st app. at 10 weeks or doesn't it work like that? I know this sounds a little odd to be worrying about this at this stage but am feeling a bit vunerable with 2nd pg as I know whats going to happen and I know more about complications etc than I did 1st time round!

I had booking in appt at 10 weeks (about 18 months ago) and scan at 12 wks. Depends where you live but I think gp logs you on the 'pregnant system' and hospital sends you appt for scan, while my mw appts were at gp.

I wouldn't start to panic, all the other women will be in the same situation waiting for appointments. I wouldn't try and skip the queue unless you have a physical concern.

Congrats btw!

The hospital will arrange the scan at as close to 12 weeks as possible won't they? I know it has to be done in a certain window (think it's between 11 and 14 wks IIRC) for baby to be big enough and for there to be time to run all the tests.

So I wouldn't be too concerned if I were you.

Congrats and hope everything goes well!

I didnt have my booking scan with my first baby until 11weeks. Had booked it for 8wks but didnt realise I needed to book a whole hour (only booked 10mins) so she cancelled and said earliest she could see me was 11 weeks. I was SOOOO upset (on plus side, she found heartbeat at 11wks to reassure me!). However, she rushed through my details to make sure i had scan in time...think it came through for 14 weeks, so quite a wait, but not too bad...

Do you get the nuchal scan etc on the NHS? Only I had that this time (only because it is now free, it wasnt for my 1st 2 pregs) and you have to have the scan in a certain time frame...11wks to 13wks+6...so if you are having a nuchal scan then she will need to make sure its booked within that time frame anyway.

Dont worry too much - just let midwife know you are feeling worried about having a late dating scan and could she arrange it asap? Instead of posting your info to the hospital, they can fax if its urgent so that all your details get there in time. I do feel for you though - the wait to dating scan is SOOOOO long anyway, you dont want to have to wait any longer than necessary! GOod luck xx

Most midwives don't see women until 12 weeks for the first appointment. I ahd my scan and midwife appointment on the same day as the hospital booked the scan appointment not the booking in midwife.

When I went to my 10 week appointment the scan had already been booked for me. Might be worth phoning your doc to find out what the system is regarding scans.

Actually my friend had her booking in at hospital and scan on the same day at 12 wks (last month).

The doctors here inform the hospital that you are pregnant and they then send you a letter through with a scan date.
I had my booking appointment last Wednesday at 12 weeks and my scan the following day.
Call your surgery to confirm what their procedure is.

Oh and congratulations Grin

You don't need to have a booking appointment in order to get booked for a 12 week scan. I don't know whether my hospital buggered things up with me, or whether they're just plain slow, but I didn't have my booking appointment until AFTER the scan! As long as the GP refers you to the right place, you'll be ok.
