Come and give me a virtual slap in the face re smoking

32 weeks pregnant, I stopped smoking as soon as I got my BFP, always struggled to quit in the past but found it a lot easier knowing it wasn't just about me and my health anymore.

Had no problems until recently, now the beautiful weather has me craving a large chilled glass of wine or 10, accompanied by lots of lovely cigarettes :( I guess it's just something I've always done in the sunshine.

So come on - tell me how horrid I am and what damage it will do to my unborn baby. I need that bit of extra encouragement to banish this longing. I am prepared for a good telling off.

TIA.

Well done, shiny, for giving up for so long for the benefit of your baby.

Don't forget, each cigarette you have is like tightening a fist around the umbilical cord, cutting off the vital oxygen and nutrients to your baby in there. It doesn't breathe the smoke into its lungs, but the lack of oxygen in the blood that it gets are truly bad for it's development.

Keep up the good work. Enjoy a glass of wine or a non-alcoholic spritzer, but give the fags a miss.

And keep giving them a miss once LO is here - risk of SIDS is greatly increased in smoking families.

You are an evil wicked wench with les morals than a mollusc.

Nope, I can't do it I'm afraid. 21 weeks myself and thinking of cider & a ciggie in the garden. Sigh.

Quite honestly I haven't smoked in years, as the last experimental one I tried was surprisingly foul. Also tasted like an ashtray for the rest of the day.

I feel exactly the same and would love a few cold lagers and a couple of fags in the sun but I've managed 29 weeks without and I know that I wouldn't do it (just a half and bit of passive smoking in the pub beer garden will have to do). There's no harm in thinking about it. I dream about smoking all the time but I would never actually light up while I'm pregnant.

My biggest worry is whether I'll go back to it once baby is here - it would seem such a shame after giving up for so long.

I was the same, summer started my cravings off again after I had stopped.
I am now 4 years year post my last one I just ate ice pops through the summer, and passed my craving onto them. Might work for you.

I was a heavy smoker before I got my BFP with number 1. I didn't have time to crave one after her arrival thankfully and haven't lloked back since.

Stay strong.

That isn't a link, it is just a slap.

SouthGoingZax that's a brilliantly graphic description, I have cut and pasted your description of a fist around the umbilical cord to my desktop so I can read it over and over when I feel the urge, thanks.

Cheeruploveitmightneverhappen and superchick it's great to know I'm not alone in this :) I feel so guilty for having such a weakness Blush
Gah, if only I could reverse time and never start then I'd never miss it! I won't won't WON'T be lighting up while I'm pregnant but it does help to admit out loud how much I want to. superchick I have the same fear about starting up again but we'll cross that bridge when we come to it :)

nunnie just what I needed, cheers :o and I'll try the ice pops.

I felt the same but it's not worth it. I had a pull on one of DPs a few weeks back and it made me feel horrendous because I hadn't smoked for 6 and a half months, I felt sick & dizzy, and also so incredibly guilty.

So now although I want a fag in the sun, I know I don't want the feelings that will come if I have one.
