Swimming & pool chemicals

I am very much looking forward to the hot weather as I go swimming at least 3 times a day (yes, I know...) from May through to September. It will be pretty much my only form of exercise during my pregnancy but it seems like a good one right?

However my DH has now terrified me by saying that the pool chemicals will have to be spot on or it could affect the baby! Is he just being over-cautious or has anyone else heard this?

I live in a swimming pool and swim every day (never three times a day though, couldn't cope with the constant showering). It's fine. The liquids don't get into your cervix anyway.

I lived abroad with my first and swam everyday there too.

How does he think the chemicals, such as they are, would enter you, and how could they exactly cause damage?

I was advised to keep up my swimming by GP, never had any problems with my previous two pregnancies and wills wim with this one too.
I have never heard of this being an issue, but I don't know everything (don't tell my DH that though).

otchayaniye you LIVE in a swimming pool?? Shock intriguing!

I think he thinks it will get through my skin via some form of osmosis Confused. He might also be concerned about breathing the chemicals in but I will leave it to him to mix the chlorine (I usually do anyway...).

I go to a public pool and I'm pretty sure there is more in there than chemicals to worry about Wink Lucky you not having erm, leakages from other people to concern yourself with.

I imagine the benefits of the exercise far outweigh any harmful chemicals. Have a shower afterwards and keep swimming!

my consultant did not recommend using the pool until 16-20 weeks (primarily due to a possible infection)... i started swimming after 23 weeks... did yoga 6 times per week before and that was sufficient...

I live in an old swimming pool. Flats around the side with indoor swimming pool shared among us.

I don't bob about in an actual pool, though that could be fun.

Like Lilly the only thing that was ever mentioned to me was the possible infection risk from the pool if you weren't sure that it was properly clean / treated (I think this probably applies less to UK swimming pools than e.g. private pools on holiday which are not being tested lots). I think the chemicals are basically a good thing as they will kill off the bugs? I've been swimming loads during both of my pregnancies without any problem.

otchayaniye lol, I did wonder if you were a highly-trained dolphin with opposable thumbs :)
