Breech babies - where did you feel your babies movements?

Hi all,

So at 28 weeks my midwife thought bubs was head down, however at 31 weeks thinks that perhaps not anymore. She thinks the baby is lying diagonally, with its head to the right side of my belly button.

Im not too concerned if she is correct (and have my doubts), but trying some of the turning techniques, on all fours, pelvic tilts etc in case the baby is breech. I know at this stage it's not a huge worry but figure the earlier I can get it to turn the better!

I seem to get all my movement on that right side, where she thought the head might be so I'm a bit confused. All my big kicks are there so I assumed that it was bum with feet tucked in next to it.

If it was breech would I not be getting som big kicks down near my fanjo!? No kicks up high though in ribs etc, so in all a bit confused. Generally though all my movement has been right side, midway for the last few weeks.

Anyone with breech baby experience who could tell me where their movement was would be appreciated!

My movement were top left mainly. They did not work DC was breech until DDay. I'd say that if you are in doubt, go and have a private scan done, maybe nearer the time. I know I would next time.

I get a lot of movement everywhere but there is a lot waaaay down south, just like it was last time.

Ask for an extra scan. If your baby persists diagonally they'll need to do one anyway!

So glad I have seen this post! I'm 36 weeks and was told yesterday that they think the baby is breech.
I told my Midwife that the movements had changed over the last 10days and that I under my right ribs was incredibly sore. She sent me for a 2nd opinion which again was not conclusive (no scan) but they think that its 'too bony to be a bum' wedged under my right ribs.
My movements have always only been in the right handside, but recently I've been having lots low down (nr fanjo!) like stamping, plenty still up on the r/hand side still and you can see things pushing out AND the odd one on the lower l/hand side...is this def breech?!

Seeing the consultant next Friday for the final opinion...

I've just been told by mw that ds2 is also breech so have good experience of this! Both babies lots of movement down left hand side and sometimes can see large lump at top of bump (head) lots of movement throughout but never any jabbing kicks- more like rolling feeling. Sometimes darting movement lower down which must be hands.

What Naughty babies!

DS was an undiagnosed breech (and footling at that!). From about 28-30 weeks I felt like I was being kicked in that soft bit at the top of my leg, between fanjo/hip bone. Sometime it was so hard my leg would buckle. DH and MW both said it must be a punch, but I said it was too hard to be a punch, had to be a kick. Turns out I was right... will be feeling for kick positions very carefully this time and making a fuss for a 36 week scan.

Oh btw to answer the OPs question reason why u might not be getting kicks down low is because yr baby might well be flexed breech which means it's feet are up by it's face!!

I had an undiagnosed breech too. I did ask my midwife during my pregnancy about DD's kicks as they were always really low down, where you get period pains (never got any high under my ribs) and she said that it was probably DD's hands, so I always had an image of her with her hands round her face punching me. Must have been kicks though, D'oh! Silly midwife. I told her there was a big history of breech in my family too - bloomin' typical.

buttonmoon78 · 22/04/2011 07:40

annette I forgot about flexed breech! My ds was typical breech with his legs bent at hip and knee (though he then had slight talipes from being compressed by my pelvis).

I, however, was full flexed breech and apparently, every time my mum tried to unbend me for the first few days my legs would spring back upwards again! Apparently made feeding a 'bit more difficult'.

BTW, I can still do it now - both feet up by my ears. The joys of hypermobility...

DD1 was fully extended breech and I only felt her head move around on the top right sight.

She had an indentation on her head from my rib (I called her bean head)

She had a clicky hip when born so was checked out for a good few months (ultrasound)

My daughter's legs also used to boing up when you flexed them down!
