Supplements causing indigestion in second trimester?

Hi Ladies.
I'm a new Mumsnetter (22 weeks, first baby) with a due date of August 29th 2011.

I'm getting horrible indigestion and heart burn and am sure it's down to these supplements I'm taking (not sure if I can name the brand on here? Will I be struck down?!) They are a good brand (quite expensive too) and it says you can take them all through pregnancy and breast feeding.

Anyone having similar problems? I'm tempted to stop taking them.

I had terrible heartburns too, without taking any supplements. I think it was due to my ever increasing size.... But if you think the supplements are to blame, I'd get rid. If you have a balanced diet, you should not need to take any. Unless off course you have some kind of condition.

Thanks ElsieR

No I don't have any conditions although because I've been quite poorly with colds and bugs of late, I was worried that I might not be getting enough good stuff in my diet - hence the supplements.
Thanks for the advice - I think I might go without them for a while and see if the heartburn gets any better.

I had dreadful indigestion when I was pregnant with DS2 and didn't take any supplements (just lots of Gaviscon)
Hope yours gets better soon - I wouldn't wish that on my worst enemy Sad

I read somewhere that your body absorbs way more nutrients/vitamins through diet than through pills. That you absorb in fact just a minimal amount of the amount provided in theory by the pills.
I also read that when you had heartburn it was better to eat little and often rather than do big meals. A great excuse to eat all day!

Sounds like it might not be the supplements at all. I hadn't realised indigestion was a general problem associated with pregnancy - great!

It is generally when I get up first thing in the morning (it's really ouchy then) or when I've been sitting down for a bit - I get up like an old lady to try and ease it (I'm only 5 months so I don't think it bodes well for the next 4!)

Don't despair quite yet. I had it bad for a while and then it went all of a sudden. Good luck!
