I'm 7 + 2 and have started bleeding literally in the past 30 minutes like a period. Not gushing but not spotting. What do I do? I'm on hold to NHS direct now but feeling a bit worried :(

Oh lord, I'm so sorry. I don't think there's anything you can do right now, but tomorrow morning you should get down to an Early Pregnancy Unit for a scan.

I've bled in early pregnancy twice. The first time it led to a miscarriage; the second time it didn't (and I bled for 10 whole weeks). It can be really hard to know what's going on, and I don't suppose NHS Direct will be able to do much other than suggest you go and have a scan in the morning.

Is there someone there who can look after you? I'm so sorry you're going through this.

Yes my husband and I are off to A&E my mother is coming to sit with my ds (who's in bed). I'm shaking and feel sick.

A&E is the fastest route to getting a scan, they may send you to gynae rather than EPAU but either way you'll be priority and will get a scan either tonight or tomorrow.

Bleeding isn't always bad news, I bled all the way through with DS and was convinced I was losing him. I've also had two miscarriages though and I know how awful a feeling it is - emotionally more than anything.

I hope everything is okay and that it isn't bad news, take it easy and look after yourself.

hester · 15/04/2011 21:14

All fingers crossed for you, LadyofTheManor. I really hope you get some reassuring news.

Good morrow! Yes I was wrenched open smear style, then digit-examined then internally scanned...early hours this morning. Delightful. Baby has a heart beat and womb is closed with the baby on the correct side :)

I have a follow up scan in a fortnight. Because of the heartbeat they said miscarriage is unlikely, but not impossible. So it's just a waiting game now. Thanks for your posts :)

So pleased to hear everything is okay!

I bled loads with DS and it was never really explained why, they had theories about how he'd kicked some of my womb lining lose or cervical erosion or partial placental abruption but none of it was correct. I was at the hospital practically every week and I think everyone on the staff had seen my bits by the finish of it. I was told at 8 weeks that once they've seen a heartbeat the stats/odds go up to a very promising 95% chance as supposedly most early miscarriages occur around about the point when the heart forms.

Great news Lady!

I bled on and off and quite heavily at times from 3.5 weeks to 11 weeks due to a haemmorage in my uterus, which they were able to locate and measure on a scan. Had my 12 week scan last week and everything looks ok.

I had much less bleeding with my mmc last year, until the day it happened obv.

On a practical note, I found the cheaper own brand sanitary towels and liners much softer than the branded ones - worth knowing if you'll potentially be wearing them for a while and want to avoid embarrassing itchiness!!!

LadyOfTheManor · 16/04/2011 13:41

Ha! Thanks Cattle will remember that-glad your scan got you the all clear :)

They said something about the blood vessels being pushed out of the way by the placenta and that could explain the blood loss. I didn't think they'd scan at the crack of dawn, but they did-and they gave me a picture! (it's a little black circle-not much to see!)

Hi LadyOfTheManor, I started bleeding in the middle of the night at 15weeks, quite heavily, was very scary. turned out it was caused by rupture of blood vessels (by placenta was lying low). Just take it easy, everything turned out fine with me, but is totally scary. you have had your scan and little bubs heart is beating away, so all is good. Just make sure its safe to have sex, as i was told to refrain untill my 5 month scan!

LadyOfTheManor · 16/04/2011 19:05

Yes I was told no sex last night. Not hard as I have a 13 month year old and 24 hour sickness...!

Hi LadyoftheManor, glad to hear that the early scan showed everything was ok. I also started bleeding at 8 weeks, not a lot, but still bright red. An early scan showed everything was ok. Since then I've had a brown discharge. I'm now approaching week 14. I was never given an explanation for my bleeding. I'm thinking about going back to the Drs about the brown discharge. Has anyone else experienced the same thing or have any advice about this? Is it safe to just ignore it?

LadyOfTheManor · 16/04/2011 19:09

Mine has turned to a brown discharge...apparently if there's no pain then things are plodding along very well. I had no spotting at all with DC1 so this was a bit of a scare but they said last night if there's no cramping or pain then it's fine...

LOTM, my experience was very similar to MDS........I too had further bleeding at around (mine was at 19) weeks. I also went on bed rest from my first episode until my scan at 21 weeks. luckily my placenta moved away. LOTM, the best thing to hear is that the womb is closed and heart is beating. totally get that you will still feel unsre, but try an relax. I panicked so much that I saw and spoke to 3 different midwifes, 2 consultants and 2 GPs!! not to mention all the reading on the net!! and they're right, if theres no pain, try not to panic or worry............

hester · 16/04/2011 21:45

Great news, LOTM. Best of luck with the rest of your pregnancy.
