In preparation for running out and buying a load, in your experience what's the best brand and why? I do have a First Response currently sitting in the cupboard, feel I should have the self-restraint not to use it's 6 days before my missed period though. Hopefully will be buying a few more after though...

This thread is pretty old now, but if you've landed here while looking for pregnancy test recommendations, our guide to the best pregnancy tests has been recently updated to reflect current availability. Made up of recommendations from Mumsnet users as well as medical experts, the guide covers a wide range of options tried, tested and approved by Mumsnet. Hope it's helpful! Smile

I dont think that the brand matters. I used to buy all mine here: tests

Clear blue digital is good as it's not open to interpritation but it's expensive so have those little sticks for £1 and only use the big guns if your seeing any faint line.

Thanks for the weblink, just ordered some of the ultra sensitive tests on the day - should let me test and therefore start working myself up about it a lot earlier Wink. Will get the big guns out if I see that faint line, cheers for the tip Smile

I agree with supergreenuk. Use the little 'dipsticks' (eBay do them, I got 20 for £3). Only use Clearblue if there is a line on those, can't explain the satisfaction of seeing the word 'pregnant' :)

i did use clear blue, its very good, the one the write the result, i find it easy, specialy if i have a not sure that one write it clear.
good luck

its a expensive but excellent.

I agree I have done similar to previous posters, use cheaper tests and getthe cb digital out when iknow it isn't going to cruelly scream not pregnant at me. I hate seeing that on a digital display!

Do not bother with first response mire than 3 or 4 days early. I used one 5 days early and got a negative. Three days later I got a positive on a cheap strip test and also on a clearblue. Testing 6 days early can be a waste of money, you may not know if you ovulated late or how long the egg is taking to implant.

Every pregnancy will have slightly differing levels of HCG, so the right time to test is when you've already missed your period. That said, I did get a very faint +ve from a FR over a week in advance of my period (I was having implantation bleeding and tested on the offchance). Wouldn't recommend this tho as am certain the chance of a false negative at that stage is very high. Waited until the expected start day of my next period to test again with a cheapish Boots one.
