Hi,
Need advice stuck between these two types of mattress and need someone with experience for help on it!
Also did you buy a mattress for the moses basket in addition to what it comes with as standard?
Thanks for your advice, first timer and just want to do the best I can!
xx

airhostess, bear in mind that your gorgeous new baby won't care one jot which of these lovely mattresses you buy; he or she will only want to snuggle up with you!

I really wouldn't worry with the moses basket mattress, just use what it comes with.

FWIW, we have cot bed mattresses from mothercare for our DTs that have a zip-off top - very handy for leaks/vomiting incidents as you can zip off the top and machine wash it.

Thankyou thats great, do you also put a mattress protector on too? As in a waterproof one?

Yes to mattress protector as the odd leaky nappy can really stain.
No to fancy mattresses unless you can really afford it then why not - otherwise I would go with the recommendation of SGZax

The mattresses we bought have an 'airflow' top so if the baby gets face-down it can still breathe through the mattress, which was important to us. We didn't use a mattress protector or waterproof sheet as well because we could wash the top of the mattress if we needed to.
Now the boys are 19 months old, we are using the protectors as they can sort themselves out if they get the wrong way up!

Liking the 'airflow' top, definately looking into that ,great advice-thanks both x

Personally I would always spend as more on mattress for my baby than anything after all how long each day will he sleep on it..hopefully at least 12 hours. When you think of a pram in comparison they spend much less time. Obviously down to you, we got a chemical free one because I want the best cot mattress from www.thelittlegreensheep.co.uk/Mattresses/Cot-Cot-Bed-Mattresses/ would recommend

We got the luxury pocket spring from mothercare. It has the airflow cover, and the cover can be washed. Got 20% off at min too.
Regarding the moses basket, we bought a new mattress from John Lewis with an organic cover as that is when I felt that was more important. I can't remember price exactly but it was between 15-30pounds.

I've been thinking about getting one of these for our next arrival

Having 2 older siblings, it'll have 2nd hand EVERYTHING so I figure I can spend a little more on the mattress and they look lovely.

Littlemissexpecting Can you please post a link of the mattress you bought from mothercare... I'm about to buy a mattress dor DS's cot-bed and like the sound of this airflow mattress... I can't seem to find it on mothercare website...

I have used the natural mat mattresses (made to order). No synthetic materials and all breathable. They are expensive but as a pp has said your baby will be spending more than half a day sleeping on it so it at least gets used!

By dc3, I gave up on the Moses basket - all of them hated it (they couldn't stretch their arms out and no air due to high sides). Personally I would invest in a really good rocker chair for the baby to rest in during the day.

I really don't know what the difference is. My snuzpod pod crib (for use up to 6 months) has some kind of natural fibre mattress which basically just feels like a 2 inch layer of foam. And I've just bought a cotbed mattress from mothercare as there was 30% off. (I already had a second hand one from my sister but paranoia about bacteria and fungus took over.) The one I got was 2nd from the top of the range reduced from £99.99 to £69.99 which I'm pretty happy with given that I was willing to spend up to £100. And it has a protector on it, and is pocket sprung with silver stuff in it that's meant to be antibacterial or something. So that will do me.

I'm probably more nervous of the natural fibre ones than the man made ones... But have absolutely no reasoning for this other than gut instinct!!
