DP and I are embarking on one last little one free trip and got a cheap deal to Malta for a week. My brain is not what it used to be and if I leave arrangements up to DP we'd never even get there.

Is there anything else I should be thinking about here? I used to be so laid back and the kind of traveller who was happy turning up to the airport with passport, a toothbrush and a packet of crisps. Maybe I'm getting paranoid.

Done:
Advanced passenger info submitted.
Booking docs printed off and in folder
passports are fine
Insurance done and docs printed (got a special pg one from ravenhall)
will get euros over the weekend
got suitcase out
Had a look online to see where the nearest hospital is

What else do I need to do? Have I forgotten anything important??Even the simplest of tasks are complicated these days!

Clothes are missing, unless you are not planning on wearing any, shouldn't make assumptions I suppose.

Find out where the nearest british consulate/embassy is in case you need to register a birth and get a passport for a baby or need other assistance. Not that you will need it but better safe than sorry - have a good holiday, i'm very jelous! Envy

Your pregnancy notes! :)

WiiUnfit · 12/04/2011 10:51

Lol sorry for not being v.helpful. Sounds like you have all the important bits sorted, are you / DP planning to drive, if so you need your driving licence (both bits) .etc.

I would take your Maternity notes with you too, just so you've got that with you should you need them.

Perhaps some pregnancy-safe insect repellent (if such a thing exists?)

ng1412 · 12/04/2011 10:56

Maternity notes, definitely. I went to mainland Europe a few weeks ago and my notes were permanently attached to me just in case!

Have you got an EHIC card too? Replaced the E111 form thing we used to have to carry for medical care.

TinyDiamond · 12/04/2011 11:24

oh you just remindced me about the EHIC cards, ordered them a while back but they haven't arrived must chase that up.
I'm planning on wearing a few clothes some of the time but it does depend on the temperature to be honest.
Got notes and also printouts from scans with EDD on, can't imagine I'll be asked by airline I'm not exactly huge.

Pregnancy safe insect repellent-now you're talking I'll definitely need that bitey things love me. Where to start? Is tea tree oil one?

I would get some flight socks or maternity pressure tights. Flying does slightly increase your chance of getting deep vein thrombosis and so does pregnancy, so its better to try and reduce your risk with the socks and a low dose aspirin tablet (85mg or less)

I always take a small medicine kit too (If you are going to be near 24 hour chemists, this isnt really necessary) I'd put in: paracetomol, rehydration sachets, antibacterial gel, plasters, thrush cream/hemmorrhoid cream/anti sickness meds if you are prone)

I used normal insect repellent in my last pregnancy and DS was fine, but then I live in an area that has Dengue fever, so the risk of getting Dengue is greater than the risk of using the repellent. IMO the "natural" repellents dont really work. You might want to get a "Click it" electronic mosquito bite cure from Boots. They really do work to take away the itching.

oh - and dont forget to take you camera!

Have a lovely holiday

WiiUnfit · 12/04/2011 21:30

Oh yes, EHIC cards are a must, pregnant or not!

Not sure if tea tree is one, might be worth a google / chat with a pharmacist? I'm sure some of the creams / gel things must be alright but best to check. :) I can second MummyAbroad on the click bite cure things - my Mum is particularly delicious to all kinds of mosquitos & lovelies, she swears by it.

Not sure how Aftersun is during pregnancy but you can get normal E45 cream, put in a few drops of lavender & refrigerate, much more relieving (even when not burnt, just bronzed), friendly & nicer smelling!

Ooh and don't forget a nice hat of some kind, can't imagine anything worse than heatstroke during pregnancy!

Mossie guard insect repellent is excellent stuff and is safe for pregnant ladies and babies alike. I used it when i was 24 weeks pg in the Maldives and didn't get a single bite whilst my DH picked up bites using a 50% DEET spray. It is now our family repellent of choice. Search for it on amazon - top notch stuff.

Will be using it again in a few weeks when we go back to to maldives and I will be 29 weeks pregnant. Why is it whenever I book a holiday to the maldives I find out I am pregnant less then a month later!
