...naturally

After 5 mc's last year (between May and Nov) i am pregnant again. I'm 4.2 wks today. I just dont know how i'm going to cope over the next 2 months

We have had many tests and nothing is wrong with us, the mc's are a total mystery apart from the fact i just turned 40:( and maybe i have run out of time :(

Everything is going to plan so far but its vvvv early days. I had the first of 3 HCG and progesterone tests this week, this morning. The hospital is giving us a 6 wk and an 8 wk scan and the rest if up to me. I'm worrying about all these tests and scans already.

Is it actually possible to have a successful pregnancy after 5 mysterious mc's. I'd really like to hear some encouraging and success stories.

Hi, I'm currently 32 weeks after 4 unexplained m/cs. I already have two dc, so to have the 4 m/c one after the other was devastating and so confusing.

I completely understand how you are feeling and I don't really know how I got through the first 12 weeks (apart from the fact that at 6 weeks I was reassuringly puking all day which didn't happen with any of the m/cs of my other dc)

I read in Prof Lesley Regans miscarriage book that TLC goes a very long way with women in our position of having unexplained m/c. My consultant actually wrote that I required TLC on my notes. The extra scans we had did help me, I didn't feel particularly reassured each time but the sense that the sonographers, midwife and GP cared what was happening was a help.

Hang in there, take it a day at a time and I so, so hope everything works out for you

Please contact Dr Hassan Shehata. He's an NHS obs specialising in rpt mc and he also has a private practice. When you say you've had tests, have you been tested for thrombophilic or immunological issues? Cytokines, uterine NK cells, etc? These are not routinely available on the NHS but are widely acknowledged to be factors in rpt mc. The treatment is a combination of steroids and heparin usually.
Although Lesley Regan was once the leading light in this area, she's come under criticism, even from some of her own colleagues let alone peers, that her approach is far too conservative. She's an excellent researcher, but there are practitioners who treat more patients more successfully and more aggressively. Dr Shehata is one (google him) and there is also Dr Amin Gorgy and Dr Mohammed Taranissi, all London based. Prof Quenby is now in Birmingham I believe, and takes a similar view.
Please don't just rely on standard NHS testing protocols, there are far more advanced and effective methods available.

I am 30 weeks today - 5th pregnancy after 4 unexplained miscarriages. Had first round of tests which found nothing, so yes it can happen and I hope this one will be a keeper for you.
I got through the early weeks one day at a time and just kept hoping to stay pregnant for one more day. It also helped to talk to Dp, a lot!
Lots of luck x

Thansk for the comments all

BagofHolly - the tests i have had are hormones, genetics, uterine scans, genetics for both my self and my partner, blood coagulation etc just not as far are the nk cells in my blood or uterus. Everyone who tests on this is in London/England I'm in Edinburgh and our consultant at the hospital says that its pointless. We don't want to just stop there, its just even more difficult in Scotland.

I am getting HCG tests every 48 hrs (4.1 wks hcg 330 progesterone 88, 4.3 wks hcg 852 and more to come), a scan at 6wks and 8 wks and crossing everything.

I also just turned 40 so i'm being treated like i'm a waste of time, i've had to push extraordinarily hard for any of the past tests and treatment we are getting now. It a daily battle to get the medical profession to take me seriously.

I just need to get past the 5th and 6th week, then it will have lived the longest.please be a keeper

Hang in there - just mind yourselves as much as you can. Keep your head as relaxed as possible - there's very little you can do but try to keep it together. And yes, of course it can be done - 29 wks and 3 unexplained m/cs put down to age - 39yrs...

Hi mmmTiffin

I've had two m/c and another pg didn't go to term. I just found out yesterday that I'm pg again out of the blue and at a point in my life where I'd assumed it wasn't going to happen. I'm 47 and terrified like you that I may m/c again. At my age m/c is highly likely, so feel like I'm just wait for the inevitable. Can't feel happy, just really scared. Will get in touch with EPU and doc on Monday, but just finding it hard to shoulder all the stress again. I did what you are doing with our last pg, when I was 45, and the stress of the hcg testing did me in, as did the mountain I had to climb for people to understand my concerns. So glad you are getting good figures for hcg, and an early scan's been arranged. All sounds really positive fo you so far, and hoping the results continue to help you to feel 'safer'. Thinking of you. Hope you get all the support you need, and that scans are reassuring.

Good luck! I'm now almost 39 weeks after 3 unexplained early MCs - had tests (also in Edinburgh so the same ones as you really, not the full raft of London tests), but no reason shown, and am in my early 30s so not even likely to be age related (one DS before these). I know those early days are so stressful, but try to think positive. You had a good break after your MCs before conceiving again - for me I think that was what really helped -, I MC'd, got pg after one cycle, MC'd, got pg without having a period, MC'd, then waiting for 5 months before getting pregnant and that was the one that stuck.

I got 6 and 8 week scans on the NHS and paid for a private 10 week scan as couldn't wait for my 12 week one. Regular scans did help to keep me calm. Other than that, just take your pre-natal vits, try to keep as healthy as you can, and don't worry (should also add that although I'm giving you this advice I had hyperemesis and ate very little other than toast for the first 16 weeks).

If you're into alternative therapies I cannot speak highly enough of the Ming Chen clinic in Leith for acupuncture (Ming is really lovely and generally kept me sane for the first few months).
