Hot weather - late preg - what are you wearing?

And where did you get it?

I need some lightweight stuff. Due at the end of the month, but want some sundresses or similar for the warm days. I imagine we're looking for the same sort of thing so let's help each other Smile. Here's my requirements: lightweight, knee length or (ideally) longer, wide straps or short sleeves (for heavy duty bras), cleavage covered to some extent.....

I'm close to most high street shops and have tried Mothercare, M&S, new look, primark etc for either a mat dress or an empire-line non-mat one. No luck. There's loads of strapless maxidresses that'd do but would require a cardigan which defeats the point. Similarly with short dresses (I don't want to wear leggings underneath in this heat.) While I don't expect to look good in anything just now I'd like to be comfortable. Too much to ask?

thanks

Boden? they have a new maternity range...

restingkitty · 11/04/2011 16:19

I have quite a few things from H&M (not nec maternity, just bigger sizes). Otherwise have you tried ASOS?

HighFibreDiet · 11/04/2011 16:34

I'm in Australia (NSW) so I've been wearing lightweight stuff for most of my pregnancy. But I don't like my legs so I've been wearing shorts and tops rather than dresses.

Asos.com looks like they have some nice dresses at reasonable prices, although lots of them are long-sleeved which puts me off, and lots seem to be synthetic materials which would make me too sweaty. But they have short-sleeved 90% cotton lace dress for £35 which is tempting.

Have you tried H&M? When I was pg with ds2 I had a great summer dress from their maternity range and I wore it loads.

JeewizzJen · 11/04/2011 16:39

I had a little mosey around Monsoon today and they had quite a lot of nice summery dresses that should fit over a bump. Bit pricey mind...

BakingBunty · 11/04/2011 16:44

I second Monsoon - lovely dresses. I've been wearing maxi dresses from H&M (non maternity) with a GAP secret support maternity vest underneath. Not sure I'd run for the bus in it, though...

CaringForPod · 12/04/2011 08:30

New Look have got some great non-maternity linen trousers that have an elasticated waist, so I've been wearing my pair to death the last few days. They fit under the bump, and since they're not technically maternity wear, I should be able to use them afterwards. (Due April 29th). Teamed with some maternity vests, I'm good to go!

Can't wear leggings as my feet and ankles are so swollen that they just dig in at the bottom. It's hideous.

dribbleface · 12/04/2011 09:14

matalan had some nice dresses that could accomodate a bump, i'm not too keen on matalan as stuff tends to not wash well but seen as its only for a month or so might be worth a shot? Will be cheap and cheerful too!

VivClicquot · 12/04/2011 09:36

Mamas and Papas have just brought out some new maxi dresses and summery dresses, as well as some floaty tops that look like they'd keep you cool.

NewMummy5July2011 · 12/04/2011 10:42

I got a great jersey dress from H&M - it's a maxi one, blue and sleeveless and really stretchy - non maternity but you can put a little cardi over it or wear it plain. Really comfy and flattering too! They have some other stretchy ones that should fit too.

Joannezipan · 12/04/2011 10:44

There are some nice ones on Jojomamanbebe as well - a really nice white knee length linen one which I got for summer days on mat leave - how white it will stay is another question!

LionRock · 12/04/2011 10:49

Thanks everyone for your ideas.

CaringForPod - same EDD and same swollen ankles! I feel your pain Smile

Sorry to burst the bubble here but forget it, it's going to go cool again. Hot weather in April never lasts long. Still, I'm reading the thread for myself as I'll be heavily preg in the summer, so thanks.

"hot" is relative. With days to go, anything above freezing is hot to me Smile

LionRock - Snap! Im in exactly the same position (due in 14 days and got no summer clothers) and was getting in a flap about it last week before snapping up a couple of items from Matalan Online maternity range which have completely solved the prob (and were v v v super cheap!). They do a simple jersey maternity sundress in navy blue (empire line, knee length) for under a tenner. I spent the entire weekend in mine and it worked for sunbathing, gardening and a pub garden (with a little floaty scarf and sandals. I also ordered a couple of maternity/nursing teeshirts from there which have also proved their weight in gold and are v flattering.
Hope that helps. Happy shopping!

I am also due at the end of the month- can you really be bothered though buying more maternity clothes, when you only have a couple of wks left???

You won't be the same size once baby is born, and apparently this warm weather isn't set to continue....Sad

marie14 · 12/04/2011 19:14

h&m - got some lovely over-bump cropped trousers that i've been living in!!!

Primark - don't usually shop there but i'm not spending monsoon/mammas and pappas prices on something i'm going to wear for the last 10-12 weeks! Got some really lovely floaty tops in there for around £6 each, then bought some size 22 vest tops that fit over my big belly comfortably (usually a size 14) just incase the tops ride up (which they don't but i don't want to be one of those people with bump hanging out of ill fitting clothes!

peacocks - not maternity but a smock dress that's black and lacy for something nice to wear for going out to dinner/ evening drinks with the girls in.

because of my huge bras, i'm going for floaty tops and fitted 3/4 trousers from h&m or under bump leggings so at least i'll have a bit of shape! can't recommend the h&m mamma line enough tho!

nicolamumof3 · 12/04/2011 21:43

got this from Next last week so so comfy was lovely to wear at weekend. Bit cleavagey but just wore a vest under. Nice wide straps, neutral colour. And could be worn afterwards i reckon too. Sooooooo comfy!
