Square sausage? Sounds like I'm missing out!
Thanks for the advice sunface. Glad I've not got too long to go before I reach that point! x

anneeapple · 13/04/2011 10:46

Hello - I'm a fellow Scot too.. from Morningside (North Lanarkshire village, not the Edinburger village). I'm 21 weeks today :)

Missgiraffe1 · 13/04/2011 13:15

RunDMC · 13/04/2011 14:32

couldn't ignore this and had to say hello - I'm scottish too and live in the central belt near Stirling. Is there really caffeine in Irn bru ? Oh well bit late now...and 25 weeks like witches (hello). Witches do you feel calmer now ? I do a bit but am now starting to think about the inevitable what comes next at 40 weeks (eek)...

Loveacuppa I think my symptoms didn't kick in properly til 7/8 weeks then I knew all about it... whereabouts in Scotland are you ?

LoveACuppaTea · 13/04/2011 14:40

I'm in Fife too. Am 33 weeks and getting even more excited to meet my son!

Anyone got any experience of Forth Park maternity hospital? I've heard a few negative stories but there's not really an alternative. I went in at 28weeks with some bleeding (thankfully everything fine) and the midwives were great but don't know anyone personally who has given birth there - apart from my mum who had my brother there 23 years ago so I reckon things may have changed since then.

Don't worry too much about the sore boobs LoveACuppaTea - mine were agony at first and it was so good when they started feeling normal again (think this would've been at about 15 weeks or so, morning sickness also thankfully stopped suddenly at this point). I didn't think the pregnancy really felt real until after the scan and even then it wasn't until about 25 weeks when I developed a noticable bump that it sunk in. Some days - despite the movements, massive stretch-marked belly, back ache, hormones, scan pics etc - I still wonder if I've imagined it all and I've just got a bit fat. :)

I'm not Scottish, but live here (near RunDMC it appears) and am 30 weeks.

Don't get the whole square sausage thing, but did have a slice on Saturday. Is that enough for me to join?

FannyFifer · 13/04/2011 20:28

thistle I gave birth in Forth Park last year and the standard of care was fantastic, not the most modern hospital but very clean.

I had quite a few probs due to Pre-eclampsia then Kidneys' failing and honestly i was so well looked after by everyone who dealt with me. Could not fault anything.

I had my 1st child in Dublin where the public maternity services are like something from a 3rd world country.

Has the new maternity unit at the Vic not opened yet?

Quite a few Fifers, be funny if we knew each other.

Mollycat1 · 13/04/2011 21:15

Hi, I am scottish and 24wks pregnant but I live in Ireland. Love the whole square sausage thing and brought a load in a cool box back to Ireland with me last time I was home.

Thankfully for me Tesco here has started stocking Irn Bru so I will admit to drinking a fair few cans over the course of my pregnancy. Its definately my weakness!!

BabCNesbitt · 13/04/2011 21:22

Scot in exile in London, and 12 weeks here! I'm steering clear of Irn Bru, though - even Lucozade gave me an all-day headache :(

MeRightYouWrong - how about this for a maternity top? Grin

LoveACuppaTea · 14/04/2011 09:59

ConfessionsOfAnAchingFanjo love the name! Of course its enough for you to join in!

BabCNesbitt That top is awesome! I want one to sleep in!

ThistleDoNicely I will also be going to Forth Park! Thats where I was born :) I'm mostly nervous I will leave with the wrong baby!

FannyFifer It would be funny if we all know each other! Guess we'll find out when I announce my pregnancy in a few weeks on Facebook! lol

Hope youz are all doing well! I had my first docs appointment today. They just asked if i was taking vitamins, not smoking and not drinking then told me to book with the midwife! Got my first appointment on Tuesday! They didnt even check to make sure I wasnt making the whole thing up!!

ThistleDoNicely · 14/04/2011 11:05

I was surprised they didn't do a test when I saw GP to mention my pregnancy too. And they still didn't at first midwife appointment. I was sure it was all in my head until the 12week scan (well, I had it at 10weeks)!

RunDMC · 14/04/2011 12:56

it's a bit of a let down that first appointment with the GP isn't it ? I was expecting a bit more but you'll get that at the midwife appointment :) although they don't do a test either as Thistle says.. I have to say it wasn't really real for me til I felt a kick for the first time..

waves to Confessions and yes I had a piece of square sausage on Saturday too.. Shame you will just miss the new hosp in Larbert for delivery as I'm assuming your EDD is June ? I'm end of July so keeping my fingers crossed..

EsmeWeatherwax · 14/04/2011 13:01

Hiya, I'm Scottish, and very hoping to be pg by the beginning of next week, Haha. Am in soggy old renfrewshire, and this will be dc 3 if it happens!

witches · 14/04/2011 15:51

RunDMC i know exactly what you mean - now that my fear of miscarrying is turning to the 'how on earth is this coming out' i mean obviously i know but my goodness its scary! Still might develop some new magical painless birthing experience in the next 15 weeks... or not! I also thought the docs or midwife might test you and had told my employer 'i might be pregnant' he must think i'm a total space cadette, but i expected them to confirm it!
