Hi there I'm 30+2 weeks pregnant and i still don't have a bump, i don't look pregnant yet and when i lie on my back my stomach seems to sink in and i can feel my ribs again. I do feel a lot of kicking especially when DD is singing to him/her i just can't help but worry as i was a whale at this point in my last pregnancy. I have been having fortnightly scans and they never speak to me it's just a case of in and out so i don't know :(
I had a scan just Wednesday last week at 29+6 and from what my notes say my measurements are.

HC: 285MM
AC: 244MM
FL: 51MM
EFW: 1.25KG

Please can someone tell me if i should be worried??

are the fortnightly scans because they're worried about the growth?

surely they'd say something to you if there was a problem?

sorry I can't really help, but didn't want to read and run.

curiouselle · 09/04/2011 20:18

Part of antenatal care is making sure you are feeling ok and happy about everything. You need to ask about this.

I am sure if they were really worried you would have had more specifics (at least you would hope so!), and the kicking is a big positive, but regardless a stressed Mum-to-be is never a good thing. Look after yourself Becka

I'm sure it's for the growth the person that was scanning me last week had to ask me what i was being scanned for :S And i told him it was the growth because they had said before i was measuring small. I also had problems with dilated kidneys before and they said they arent a cause for concern.
Thanks for replying

I think HC is head circumference and efw is estimated fetal weight but not entirely sure.

tutu100 · 09/04/2011 20:26

Hc is head circumferance. AC is abdominal circumferance, FL is femur length and EFW is estimated fetal weight.

This means atm your baby's estimated weight is 2lb 12oz which to me sounds pretty good for 30 weeks.

I would call your midwife and ask her to explain everything to you, you should know what is going on.

My Ds2 was small for dates, but my midwife said he was lynig in a position which made my bump look even smaller IYSWIM.

My ds2 didn't grow much after 38 weeks (he was born at 41+9 weighing 7lb) so wasn't a bad size in the end.

Have they said anything to you about your fundal measurement, that was what was always behind for me e.g. at 38 weeks I measured 34.

Casmama · 09/04/2011 20:32

tutus post sounds very reassuring but I think you need to be much more assertive - you have a right to know why you are being scanned and what there findings are. You need to ask and if the sonographer is reticent to explain their findings then ask to speak to someone who will.
Having said that I'm sure they would have told you if there was anything to worry about and by getting fortnightly scans they are keeping a close eye on you so would know if there was anything to worry about.
Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy.

I had a scan on friday I was 30+1 so a few days ahead of you my measurements were:

HC 295mm
AC 261mm
FL 61mm
EFW 1.715kg

so about the same as yours. You must have abs of steel or a ninja baby! :o I think most of my bump is made of cheese anyway Hmm. If the baby is kicking and they don't seem worried about the measurement's I would try not to worry. Next time though tie them to their chair until they give you some answers!

You need to ask questions! Please don't worry about being demanding, you have a right to know exactly what's going on and why you are having fortnightly scans.

I'm sure all is fine, BUT you should be asking more questions. Sometimes you do have to push for information on the NHS, and then you will get some results!

Good-luck...Smile

Hey
One of my friends didnt know she was pg
she went to the doctor (GP) at 30 weeks.....
depsite classic pg symptoms (that she was visiting for) GP didnt even suggest / mention possible pregnancy... prescribed some stuff and said if dont work come back in a week
She returned the next week at 31 weeks pg and doctor then asked the Q could you be pg? Friend wasnt sure (but hadnt considered it) so doctor had a feel and realised yes she WAS pg... but no idea how far gone...., far enough to feel baby inside though!

went for a scan the next day at 31 weeks, and even the day before even the doctor didnt think she looked pg, just asked if she could be!

Within a few days she had a proper bump!

Dont give up hope... (oh and my friend is averagely tall size 12-ish so it wasnt hiding under loads of fat or anything like that!)

nannyl · 09/04/2011 21:21

and can i add that baby is now a happy healthy 5 year old, who has been doing great since birth. Smile

keevamum · 09/04/2011 21:29

I was scanned weekly with my dd1 she was measuring small for dates. I was told to expect a small baby. I had no bump visible until 40 weeks and even then that was small. She was born a very healthy weight and length on the 75 th percentile. So they were very wrong with her estimated size. However, I did have a rear facing womb and I am sure she was laying sideways until about week thirty. Relax I am sure it will be fine but at least they are scanning you to make sure.

lilly13 · 09/04/2011 22:12

I think your measurements sound pretty normal for 30 weeks. I am sure they'll tell you if the growth is below the recommended range. Good luck!

PenguinArmy · 10/04/2011 01:37

I wasn't really showing at 30 weeks. I had to go to AnE where they asked if I was sure I was as far as along as they said. She just tended to hide out at the back. My bump didn't grow for the last 6 weeks so got sent off for growth scans where it showed she was growing. She came out a bit light (25th) but 50th for HC and length.

In the white booklet I had (pg notes) were a load of charts, took some deciphering, but I am able to plot the numbers according to gestation.

frakyouveryverymuch · 10/04/2011 06:57

Is your baby lying transverse? I had no bump at all (helped by good abs from Pilates I think) until baby turned head down and it literally appeared overnight. Bump still not huge, although according to growth scans baby is!

Ask them if you're at all concerned but a lot depends on foetal positioning.

CitizenOscar · 10/04/2011 07:25

Those measurements are pretty similar to mine (same femur length, slightly smaller on the other measurements). I've been told my baby's pretty average size. I hardly had a bump until a couple of weeks ago and now I feel huge (although people still say I'm tiny, even though the midwife & gp both measured me as average).

I'm sure if they were worried, they would have said something BUT I agree with the others who say you must ask! Just a simple "how is the baby's growth?" or "is there anything I should be worrying about?" should get the answers you need. I had an internal examination at 20 weeks for bleeding and I still had to ask questions to get a straightforward answer as to whether I should be worried and what I should do about it if so. You have to ask.

Hope these posts have helped set your mind a bit more at ease, but do ask your team cos they'll actually know.

Pootletrinket · 10/04/2011 09:06

I had a slim friend who, at 32 weeks, had no bump but there was a significant one by 36 and her baby was bigger than mine when he arrived and my bump was huge.

candr · 10/04/2011 19:12

How horrible that they are not talking to you, put your foot down and demand it. Someone I work with has 4 kids and did not change figure from size 8 with any of them - no one knew she was pregnant till she appeared with baby. Sounds from other posts as if your ok though so go and stamp your pretty little foot x

BreastmilkDoesAFabLatte · 10/04/2011 21:14

There's not necessarily any correlation between foetal measurements and bump size. With DD, I was barely showing even at full term and she was only ever just below average size.

But I agree with others, you need to be asking these questions at your scans...
