Is this SPD, do you think?

I'm 17 weeks pregnant with DC3.

For the past 2 weeks, I've been getting pain in my right hip. Right where my leg meets my crotch, IFSWIM. Absolutely nothing in my left hip or leg, and nothing in the centre of my groin. The pain is getting steadily worse, so that now I'm struggling to walk, go up/down stairs or sleep (even with a pillow between my legs).

Do you think this is SPD? I had always understood that SPD was a symmetrical pain because of its cause, so had discounted it as a possibility. But I can't think what else it could be.

I only had the usual aches and niggles with the first two.

Thanks.

SPD is definitely not symmetrical - it's much more likely not to be symmetrical. Mine started only in my left side. I'm not sure whether it could be SPD or not, but it sounds possible. Have you asked to see a physio?

My SPD started firmly on my left side but is now far worse on the right. Get yourself referred asap to a physio and also if you can see a chiro or osteo. The earlier you get attention, the more that can be done. Good luck!

Thanks. Do I get referred through my GP or my midwife?

Either can refer you. Mine delayed referring for weeks on the basis that it was just hormonal twinges-I had very similar symptoms to you-so don't let them say no! And find out if there's an acute clinic near you as you'll get seen far more quickly.

The chiro or osteo will almost certainly have to be done privately by the way, so if you can pay for them, go straightaway.

Oh my goodness! This started for me yesterday also. By the time evening came it was as much as I could do to get up the stairs for bed. I am 31+2 and was really starting to think I wasn't going to get afflicted with this but WRONG! Thankfully I have MW on Sunday so will mention it to her then. Can you take paracetamol for it?

CinnabarRed · 08/04/2011 10:02

I find that paracetamol doesn't touch the edges....

Sympathies, LDN. I'm taking paracetamol most days, and codeine on days when I absolutely have to do things or when the pain is really bad. I've noticed that codeine is supposed to alleviate 'mild to moderate' pain. I reckon I have more than moderate pain!

LDN - REST as much as possible. Seriously, don't try to push on through. The less you do, the better it will be. It's maddening and frustrating I know.

I agree with others. See gp asap and ask for referal to physio. Mine gave me a load of info on reducing the pain which helped a lot while I was waiting for the appt.
