HI! Whilst surfing around on ebay I came across baby sleep positioners and pillows to prevent flat heads....anyone have any experience with using either? I am tempted just cos I am an ebay shopaholic and they are so cute! Just wondering if there was a reason not to! Thanks

I used a baby sleep positioner and found it great as it stopped DD rolling over - even though I stopped using it when she was 6 months, she still didn't roll over in bed until she was 11 months, and sleeps very still even now (14 months) compared to my neice who is all over her cot when sleeping and gets her head stuck in the bars.

I used this one

They look like a really good idea - though I read somewhere (in one of those THESE WILL DESTROY YOUR BABY type articles no doubt) that they can be considered risk for suffocation etc? Someone please provide some contrary know-how..

I used the Lovenest one on one of my sons - he ended up with very severe plagiocephaly that remains with him today.

Schmee - do you mean the lovenest caused the plagiocephaly? I thought these pillows were meant to prevent it??

I don't think it caused it - there were other reasons. But it certainly didn't help it in any way. Might have helped if he had just rested flat on his back, but I think most babies who develop a problem have an asymetrical flat bit caused by them looking in one direction most of the time (for various reasons). Won't get one this time though.

I have a babymoov lovenest but only got it when DD was 3 months and already had a bit of flat head. She had the asymmetric type as she always lay facing the right. TBH I hardly used it because she wriggled around so much her head wouldn't stay in it for long (maybe a sleep positioner would've helped that Wink ). I just started putting her on her tummy a lot more and now (6 1/2 months) her head shape has completely changed. It's not really flat and only a tiny bit asymmetric (I'm probably the only one who can tell). I wouldn't buy it again I don't think.

IME most babies don't roll much in their sleep until they're a bit older. My DD didn't start rolling back to front until about 4 1/2 months, and has only started rolling in bed in the last 3 or 4 weeks. I would get one of those sleep positioners but it'd have to be really high or she'd just roll over it. I've tried using my dream genii next to her to stop her rolling and she manages to get over it no problemo! Confused

In short, I wouldn't bother buying either! [helpful]
