I have looked and looked and looked and I can't find anyone locally who offers private maternity, birth, and post natal care.
Is it just not the done thing in my neck of the woods (Lancashire), or am I not looking hard enough?

Is it worth asking my Consultant on monday?

NO reason for me not to go NHS is has been relatively okay with my last two, it is just something I wanted more information on and maybe a consultation to discuss my history really.

There are no hospitals outside London where you can actually deliver privately. But many obstetricians will take private patients. Google the obstetrician you want and call their secretary and ask where they see their private patients. Or look at the websites for your local private hospitals and see which obsteticians have rooms there. Hope that helps.

How about an Independent Midwife? The level of care provided ante- and post-nataly is usually on a completely different level to that supplied by the NHS. Their exact role during the birth would depend on where you planned to give birth - as independent practitioners they can't usually act as a MW within an NHS hospital, but they can support you as a MW at a homebirth or come with you into hospital as a very well qualified birth supporter.

From my experience, IM's tend to be much more prepared to support those women who's individual circumstances fit them into the "normal but unusual" category than their NHS counterparts. For example, I found 2 lovely, very experienced IMs who were very happy to support me during the vaginal breech birth of my first child. All those of talked to were very happy to have an extended talk over the phone, or would do an official consultation meeting in person for about £50 (deductable from their fee if you booked).
