I'm quite an anxious person and have been worrying since I got my BFP.

This is my first pregnancy and I'm worried that something is wrong.

By dates, I am 12 weeks on Saturday so I thought I'd have got my NHS scan appointment through by now, but it's not here yet. My boss (one of the few people we've told) said his wife didn't get her first scan until 14 weeks.

I'm desperate to know if all is OK and also desperate to tell people so I gave in and splashed out on a private scan for Sunday.

Has anyone else had a private first scan - how did it go?

I had a private first scan because it took so long for the NHS one to come through.

It was really good - got loads of pictures. Worth the money in my opinion.

OrangeGloss · 06/04/2011 19:21

I had a private scan, it was great. We saw loads more than the nhs one and they spent more time - because we were paying though of course. Better photos too!

Congratulations!

Sounds like the right decision -- have you chased your hospital, though? If you're having an NT scan it has to be done before 13w6d, so it's worth calling them and asking what's happening.

Good luck for Sunday!

I did with my first 2 pregnancies. They were great and did the nuchal testing for us. I had both between 12 and 13 weeks and both times they could tell us the sex that early due to the amount of time they spent looking. Something to bear in mind to ask about of you want to find out!

I had one at 8 weeks (thought I was) saw the heart and was made up, got about 10 pictures, but the best bit of all was a CD with 2 little clips of the heart beating away it was worth the £60 just for 2 little clips tbh and the reassurance.

I had mine as a history of M/C meant I was doing my own head in never mind DP's, the NHS one came thru for 13 weeks, however they brought my dates forward again, so only thing is your dates might change slightly but as I say the reassurance is priceless.

Going again in a few weeks.

Thanks for the replies.

So excited now!

I bet the NHS one will come through for Monday or something now, but from what you've said here - with more time/pics etc. I think I'd want a private one anyway.

How much time do they give you for the NHS one?

For my midwife booking appointment the midwife left a message for me on my phone at 4.55pm on Wednesday saying the appointment would be from 11am-12pm on that Friday. Is that a normal sort of time frame?

Your best bet is to ring the antenatal ultrasound dept at your hospital and ask if they have you booked in. Better than trying to second guess when it might come, and all hospitals are different.

davidtennantsmistress · 06/04/2011 21:09

my private one was about half hour ish, it honestly was amazing, the NHS one was about 5 minutes a quick check. we enjoyed it just as much but I think the first one was more special iycim.

H007 · 06/04/2011 22:07

I have too :)

I am somewhere between 8 and 12 weeks (last period I can remember was Jan, however may have forgotten Feb one) and I am desperate to know how many weeks I am and whenabouts baby is due, so after my first trip to GP where I was basically told I should have booked straight in with MW. Went to book in with MW and it's another week, then I go on holiday it all seems to far away so I bite the bullet and got the card out. Scan is Friday lunchtime :) excited and scared!

Chocolocolate · 06/04/2011 22:16

Glad to hear I'm not the only impatient one!

Good luck on Friday H007

Now it's booked, time seems to have stopped - can't wait until Sunday.

And you for Sunday :)

H007 · 08/04/2011 15:00

Well I did it and was definatly worth the money, soniographer spent ages scanning my little blob and confirm that I am 8 weeks :) had loads of photos to take away, not that you can see much. However she confirmed everything is ok, and it had a little heartbeat and was the right size etc. :)

Chocolocolate · 08/04/2011 17:34

Aw - congratulations H007. Have you told everyone yet?

Time just isn't moving fast enough for me!!!

:) glad it went well, you;ll be amazed how much the bean will have grown in 4 weeks honestly. DP couldn't believe how ours had developed into a 'proper tiny person' as he put it. :o

iskra · 08/04/2011 19:45

My NHS scan was an hour long, with another 1.5hrs waiting around for blood results etc - they gave us our DS results etc on the day.

H007 · 08/04/2011 23:07

No haven't told everyone or hardly anyone.... Slightly scared how people will react! My rents knew from the day I knew however the scan has encouraged OH to tell his rents who are over the moon.

Chocolocolate · 10/04/2011 16:28

So, we've had our scan - it was great!

Little foetus was wriggling a lot which was fantastic to see.

Turns out I'm only 9+1 so will ring the hospital and ask if they can arrange their scan for 12 weeks - we can then see how much he/she's grown.

I love the pictures and can't wait to tell family next weekend.

Now he/she's due on 12-Nov-2011 - so we must be due at a very similar time H007

Only downside - the morning sickness is likely to last longer!
