hi

Been in hospitaltoday hooked on a machine checking babies HB and contractions. Defo contracting but cervix is closed. Took some paracetamol kind of took the edge off but can still feel them.

Hospital sent me home and have been told to return if they get closer together but they are quite close together???

I have no idea what's going on!

I was like that at 33 weeks, waters broke one morning and was contracting every 2 mins. 36 hours later still contracting worse but no dilating - turned out first baby was a cross legged breech.

29 weeks with these babies I was contracting but no dilating again!! I'm now 35 weeks and still like it.

I had this in several episodes with my first at 23,27,31,33 wks I had steroids at 33 weeks and we expected her to appear, she waited til I had a huge haemorrhage at 38 weeks and I was ironically then induced. It can be that something is irritating your uterus-in my case it was a small tear I had that kept bleeding from where I started with a low lying placenta.
By the time I got to my 2nd there was a swab they could take from just behind the cervix that told you whether labour was likely in the following 14days, perhaps ask about that. I went into pre term labour just shy of 34 wks 2nd time round and they did this test. It's extremely useful. Just wish baby brain could remember what it's called. Sorry.
Do get checked out tho.

Fetal fibronectin test?? I had this last week at 33 weeks as was contracting, and came back negative-about 99% certain not going into labour in the next two weeks. One week gone so far and seems to be holding true...

Ps I was contracting every 2 minutes for 5 hours, then asked for paracetemol and it all slowed down and stopped. Perhaps try that?? Is horrible and scary, I do feel for you. On the plus side, has made me so motivated, have in the past week ordered everything I need for this baby, a real wake up call as my two ds were each a week late!!

thelizard · 06/04/2011 18:54

Sorry just re-read and you havetried paracetemol already. Midwife told me to drink a lot as being dehydrated can make it worse, as can needing a wee. I was also prescribed codeine to take if still painful. If you arevstill worried though, time them and then call labour ward again. That's what they are there for and they promised me they don't mind! Good luck

Boosaphena · 06/04/2011 19:24

Ooh yes I forgot about the dehydration. Good point.
I also forgot to say how terrifying it is, and that no matter how awkward you feel calling labour ward you are far better off calling them a hundred times then going into labour at home. That's what my consultant told me. I do hope it works out. Also try and get some rest in, I remember if I was shattered it made things kick off.

I'm not sure if this is linked but last night I was very restless and out of breath??? Felt like my heart was going to beat out of my chest. Then today all this happens??
